Giants vs Cowboys Point Spread Sunday Night Football 2013

by Scott Burgess on Friday, September 6th, 2013

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones can’t sleep at night ahead of their season opener against hated rival NY Giants, Sunday Sept 8th, at AT&T Stadium. It could also be a heavy dose of fear that is preventing Jones from sleeping peacefully. The Cowboys haven’t been to the playoffs since 2009, an embarrassing stretch for a once proud franchise that owns five Super Bowl titles. To make matters worse for Jerry, the Giants are 4-0 SU at AT&T Stadium, but the Cowboys are 6-0 all-time against the Giants in season openers, including last year’s game at MetLife Stadium. The Giants won their last meeting, in Jerry’s House, 29-24 on Oct 28. NFL oddsmakers have the Cowboys listed as -3 point home favorites over the Giants with the total set at 48.5 points. Be sure to get your Giants vs Cowboys Pick in early ahead of Week 1′s kick-off.

romo-vs-manningThe Giants QB Eli Manning mustered up 192 yards passing, with one interception, and RB Andre Brown added their only offensive score. If it wasn’t for kicker Lawrence Tynes making 5 of 5 field goals, this game would’ve been ugly. The Giants built a 23-0 lead and let it slip away after allowing the Cowboys three scores and a field goal.

The Giants pass rush really struggled last year. They had 33 sacks after posting 48 in 2011. The Giants’ defense is based on the ability of its front four to pressure quarterbacks, and when it’s not doing that, it’s a pretty ordinary team. So they’re hoping Justin Tuck has a bounce-back year and Jason Pierre-Paul recovers soon from back surgery. I don’t think Pierre-Paul is going to be ready to play Sunday night as he is listed as questionable.

RB Andre Brown will miss 4-6 weeks with a tiny little crack in his leg he suffered in Week 4’s preseason game, which means that David Wilson will get more opportunities to not fumble. In 10 games last season, Brown averaged 5.3 yards per carry to go with eight touchdowns. Wilson played three preseason games rushing for 163 yards with one touchdown, caught five passes for 25 yards with no touchdowns. The Giants will see how backup Da’Rel Scott fares in the season opener before signing free-agent help. WR Victor Cruz suffered a heel contusion in a preseason game but has shed his walking boot and is expected to play against the Cowboys on Sunday.

The Cowboys QB Tony Romo put on a clinic through the air after passing for 437 yards last outing, with a touchdown pass, but four interceptions. They managed a low 19 yards rushing, but two runs for scores from Felix Jones and Romo. Jason Witten had a huge game with 18 catches for 167 yards, while TE Miles Austin had 133 and Dez Bryant added 110.

Coming off a season in which he tied for the NFL high with 19 interceptions, Tony Romo said Wednesday his top priority this season will be to protect the football. The Cowboys quarterback’s interception total also matched a career high against the Giants last meeting throwing up four.

The first injury report of the 2013 season was released on Wednesday and running back Lance Dunbar (foot), safety Danny McCray (hamstring) and defensive end Anthony Spencer (knee) did not participate in practice. With Dunbar out, expect Phillip Tanner and rookie Joseph Randle to pick up carries behind starter DeMarco Murray in Sunday’s game.

When: Sunday Sept 8@8:30 PM ET
Pick: Giants +3

The Bottom Line: If Manning has time to find his receivers, he is of course dangerous. But the question regarding their receiver’s health is troubling. The Giants are a passing offense built around Eli, but they wouldn’t mind a more representative run game than they’ve had in recent years. I like the Giants. We recommend you signup with Bovada to receive a 10% signup bonus heading into the Giants vs Cowboys game.
