 The NY Jets will show off their new QB Bret Favre, Sunday September 7, when they head into Miami to take on the newly rebuilt Miami Dolphins. Favre was the toast of Green Bay last year, but will he be the toast of New York this year? The NY Jets QB Bret Favre had a great year with the Packers last year; he threw for 4,155 yards along with 28 touchdowns, for a 95.7 passer rating. But he also had 47 interceptions and only 38 touchdown passes. Now he has all the pressure of the Big Apple squarely on his shoulders. I understand that most people think the odds are against me, and that's fine," Favre said. "I'm not here to be a god. I'm not here to get trashed, either. I'm here to help this team win. I still think I can offer something to the game of football, to myself. That's all I can do. I hope it works out, believe me." In order to help Favre produce, they shored up their offensive line. They added free agents Alan Faneca and Damien Woody. One thing everyone hasn’t brought up yet is Favres’ play in hot weather, he’s more of a cold weather player than a hot muggy humid player.
The Miami Dolphins acquired QB Chad Pennington after the Jets picked up Bret Favre. Now it’s time for Pennington to get some revenge. To help out Pennington the Dolphins have the No. 1 overall draft pick Jake Long at left tackle. The Dolphins also hope to rely on what could be a strong running game, with former Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams back in the fold to complement mainstay Ronnie Brown. Ricky looked sharp in the preseason; he had 29 carries for 123 yards and 1 touchdown. The bigger questions may be on defense for a team that allowed an AFC high 437 points last year. So they bolstered their defense with first-round pick Vernon Gholston and defensive tackle Kris Jenkins, acquired in a trade with Carolina. The Jets twice took advantage, scoring 71 total points in a pair of victories over Miami.
