2010 NFL Week 1 Picks

by Matt Foust on Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

2010 NFL Week 1 Picks: The wait is finally over football fans, the preseason charade concluded last week and the games start counting this Thursday when the Minnesota Vikings take on the defending Super Bowl champion Saints. Along with that matchup, NFL schedule makers have rewarded the league's throng of followers with several quality season opening contests, including the Bengals/Patriots, Colts/Texans, and Packers/Eagles. 2010 NFL Week 1 Picks at SBGglobal.com have the home team listed as a dog in each of those games with the exception of the Patriots, which are a -4 against the spread favorite.

Cincinnati Benglas vs New England Patriots (-4): The Bengals get a tough week one draw having to face the Patriots in New 2010 NFL Week 1 PicksEngland, but if Cincy hopes to retain its AFC North title it has plenty of difficult opponents to get past. Carson Palmer and company can send a big message with a win over New England, though, which has won its last six home openers by an average of 6.5 points per game. One thing is certain, in order for the Bengals to have a chance on Sunday, they will need their fourth ranked defense to show up big. Not only have the Patriots won their last six Gillette openers, they have averaged 25 points per game in doing so.

Indianapolis Colts vs Houston Texans (+2): The Colts have owned this matchup at Reliant Stadium winning seven of the eight meetings between these two division rivals in Houston. In fact, Indy's domination of the Texans has not been limited to the Lone Star State as the Colts are 15-1 in their last 16 games at any location against Houston. As expected, Peyton Manning is the reason for the lopsided results in this series; the four time MVP has thrown for 4421 yards and 37 touchdowns in 16 starts (112.4 passer rating). So, while Gary Kubiak's squad is expected to contend for a post-season spot this year and the Colts are coming off another horrific preseason, do not be too eager to jump on the home dog in this rivalry game.

Green Bay Packers vs Philadelphia Eagles (+3): The Packers are the sexy pick in the NFC this year, and why not? Aaron Rodgers has turned himself into an elite level passer and the offense has plenty of weapons for him to utilize. Green Bay can solidify its lofty status by beating an always game Eagles squad in Philadelphia this weekend. Philly does have a few question marks or rather one big question mark at quarterback, though, after trading Donovan McNabb to the Redskins. Kevin Kolb will take over under center, but he has limited experience and his preseason results were less than stupendous. Kolb completed just 53 percent of his exhibition passes for 324 yards and one interception.
