Denver Broncos vs Jacksonville Jaguars 2010 NFL Week 1 Picks: The Jacksonville Jaguars open up their 2010 NFL season with a home game against the Denver Broncos, Sunday Sept 12. The Broncos failed to make the playoffs after going 2-8 after Week 7’s bye, while the Jaguars didn’t come close in the tough AFC South. NFL oddsmakers at BODOG.com have the Jaguars as -3 point home favorites over the Broncos while the game's total has been posted at 39.5 points . The Broncos believe they can be much better on defense, more aggressive and be able to create more turnovers than they were in 2009. That's been their main focus during the offseason, that the defense is going to be ready, even without star pass rusher Elvis Dumervil, to shine when the season starts Sunday at Jacksonville. Denver's defense doesn't have a choice. It has to be ready for the Broncos to be successful. On offense Kyle Orton may be throwing the ball better than ever, but he is surrounded by question marks on offense . The Broncos let veteran wide receiver Brandon Stokley go. With the exception of Jabar Gaffney, another veteran, Stokley was the most dependable wideout on the roster. Brandon Lloyd has wowed teams in training camp before, only to finish down the list in catches and touchdowns when the season was over. Eric Decker is a talented rookie at a position that has been unkind to rookies. Demaryius Thomas is an injured rookie. And after plenty of discussion about getting Eddie Royal more involved, Royal had six catches in the preseason. The Broncos' defense carried the team to its 6-0 start last season and was a big part of the 2-8 crumble down the stretch. It appears the defense will have a lot on its plate this year as well.

The Jaguars will be trying to move out of the basement and establish some upward mobility in a tough AFC Division. Coach Jack Del Rio stated, “In many respects in the NFL, you’ve got to take what you want. You’ve got to set some goals and then go after them. And I don’t think there is anything wrong with having a goal of being champs.” RB Maurice Jones-Drew is a top-flight weapon taking handoffs or running under short passes and Sims-Walker did well establishing himself as a go-to guy for David Garrard . But, do the Jaguars have the playmakers to take the next step? They certainly have a large pool of candidates. Marcedes Lewis averaged 16.2 yards per catch last season, the best number in the league for a tight end, and another tight end, Zach Miller, is a potential big-play option. Undrafted running back Chad Kackert catches everything and can turn and go, while the three receivers from the 2009 draft — Mike Thomas, Jarett Dillard and Tiquan Underwood — are an intriguing pool.

Recent Trends to Consider:

  • Road team is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings.
  • Underdog is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 meetings.
  • Jaguars are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games in Week 1.
