Pittsburgh’s defense would love to welcome Peyton Manning back to the game with a few nice hits tonight. To a man, they say they won’t be bashful if they get a chance for a good, clean hit on one of the game’s most heralded quarterbacks.

“I see him as a quarterback that I’m trying to get to, as I see him as any other quarterback that I’d be trying to get to,” linebacker James Harrison said. “Injury has no bearing on it. He’s a healthy individual. There’s nothing wrong with him. He’s had surgery, as many other players have had in the NFL.”

It’s not easy getting to Manning. He’s been sacked just 231 times in 13 seasons. He’s attempted 7,210 passes. The most he’s been sacked is 29 times in 2001.

The Steelers did not generate much of a pass rush in the preseason with only four, and they haven’t had fewer than the 35 sacks they managed last season since 1990, when they had 34.

Denver’ offense in 2012 will be mostly referred to as the Peyton Manning offense. “I know he would prefer to be no-huddle, because it gives him more time at the line of scrimmage,” said Tony Dungy, Manning’s former Indianapolis Colts coach. “I think it will depend on how people play them. If people play them and say, ‘We’ve still got to stop Willis McGahee and we’ve got to see if Peyton is healthy, they’ll throw it.’ But the great thing about Peyton is if they play pass defense and give them lanes to run, he’ll call the runs. And I think that’s going to be the type of offense they have. They’ll look at it, and he’s going to orchestrate it at the line of scrimmage.”
