by Scott Burgess on Friday, September 11th, 2009

The Green Bay Packers do battle with NFC North rivals Chicago Bears, Sunday Sept 13, as Lambeau Field sees its first action of the 2009 NFL season. The Bears have won three of their last four meetings against the Packers. NFL oddsmakers at Sportsbetting.com have the Packers as -3.5 point home favorites over the Bears with the over/under set at 46.5 points . The Bears will be touting their new QB Jay Cutler Sunday as the Bears look to return to a powerhouse in the NFC North. QB Jay Cutler set the franchise record for passing yards in a season (4,526) to go along with 25 touchdowns for Denver. WR Devin Hester is back and he has the potential to go down in NFL history as one of the greatest returners of all time. Hester has never really been the Bears go to guy as receiver, but now he has a Pro-Bowl quarterback throwing to him in Jay Cutler, Hester has the potential to become a serious No. 1 threat this season. Another receiver who can break out this season is WR Earl Bennett who played his 2005 season at Vanderbilt with Cutler. On defense the Bears used to be in the discussion for best defense the past few seasons, but last year they were ranked 21st in the league in yards allowed per-game and ranked 16th in points allowed per game. The Bears didn't have a single player with more than six sacks. Safety Kevin Payne had more sacks than Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs combined…with one. The Bears lost too many games while leading and they must buck up if they want to win. The Bears are 5-5 SU when playing in September and 5-5 SU when playing inside the NFC North. They went 3-1 SU in the pre-season.

The Packers are expecting great things from QB Aaron Rodgers now that he has a years experience under his belt. QB Aaron Rodgers had 28 TD’s with 4,038 yards passing. Rodgers displayed grit, skill and intelligence in his first full year as the starting quarterback. He played through injury and put up huge numbers. His favorite weapons, WR Greg Jennings and Donald Driver both remain on the club and are an excellent 1-2 combination. The Packers also hope to have another solid year from unheralded RB Ryan Grant, to complete the offense as a dynamic unit. WR Greg Jennings and WR Donald Driver combined for 14 TD’s with 2,304 yards receiving, while RB Ryan Grant added an additional four TD’s.  They are looking forward to a healthy defense this season with some young talented draft choices that will help solve a porous rush defense. The Packers are 7-3 SU when playing in September and 7-3 SU when playing inside the NFC North. They went 3-1 SU in the pre-season.
