When will Cleveland Browns first rounder Brady Quinn make his first regular season start? The oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com have made the week 6 matchup against the Miami Dolphins the favorite at 7 to 2 odds. Despite getting throttled by the Pittsburgh Steelers this past weekend, the Cleveland Browns managed to do something that has never been done since the AFL/NFL merger in 1970. The Browns shipped out their Week 1 starting quarterback Charlie Frye before getting the opportunity to start Week 2. For now the job has been handed over to Derek Anderson. But as everyone knows, Anderson’s days as the starting signal caller are most likely numbered too.
With a passer rating of 63.5 in his six career appearances, Anderson has been far less than extraordinary. This leaves the question: When will first rounder Brady Quinn make his first regular season start? After spending a first round pick on Quinn and an impressive preseason, it is just a matter of time before Brady is under center.
Of course, the age old debate of whether you send your young quarterback into the fire early or let him hold the clipboard on the sidelines comes into play. In the Browns case, head coach Romeo Crennell could find himself on the hot seat if his squad doesn’t show some marked improvement. For this reason alone, it is quite obvious that Quinn will oust Anderson sooner rather then later.
When exactly will Brady Quinn make his first start is unknown but after looking at the schedule, either the October 14th game versus Miami or the November 4th game versus Seattle makes the most sense. For one, both of these games are at home. Secondly, their two home games prior are against Cincinnati this weekend (too soon?) and Week 4 against the NFL’s most physical defense, the Ravens.
