Carolina Panthers vs New York Giants 2010 NFL Picks, 2010 NFL Predictions & 2010 NFL Odds: The Carolina Panthers and New York Giants open their respective seasons against each other this afternoon in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The two NFC rivals are scheduled to kick things off at 1:00pm ET at the New Meadowlands Stadium. 2010 NFL Picks at BetUS.com have the Giants listed as a -6.5 against the spread home favorite and the Over/Under set at 41.
The Panthers finished the preseason with a 1-3 record after averaging a miserable 8.2 points per game. John Fox's squad
failed to crack the 10 point mark two times in its four games and finished its exhibition slate with a high water mark of 15. Despite the offense's poor production, quarterback Matt Moore retained his starting job, beating out rookie Jimmy Clausen, which the team selected with its first pick in the 2010 draft.
Carolina does have a couple of things to feel positive about, though, as it opens the season today against the Giants. The Panthers defense held its preseason opposition to an average of 13 points and 206.8 yards per game, both of which ranked first in the league. The team also welcomes back its star wideout, Steve Smith, who missed the entire preseason with an arm injury he suffered during a flag football game earlier in the summer.
New York opened strong last season, winning its first five games, but the team faded down the stretch and missed the playoffs after finishing up at 8-8. The Giants, which wrapped up the preseason with a 2-2 record, are looking to avoid the same kind of collapse this year as they attempt to move ahead of NFC East foes Dallas and Philadelphia.
Head Coach Tom Coughlin did make at least one big change in an effort to regain top dog status in football's toughest division, electing to move running back Ahmad Bradshaw into a starting role. The decision did not sit well with former incumbent Brandon Jacobs, but Bradshaw cleary outperformed Jacobs last season, averaging over a yard per carry more while scoring two more touchdowns.
The Panthers own a 4-2 lead in this series, including a 41-9 beat down last December in New York. Carolina racked up 416 yards in the win as Morre tossed touchdown strikes of 22, 2, and 27 yards. The Giants had four turnovers in the loss, two of which came on Eli Manning interceptions.
2010 NFL Picks Betting Trend: The Over is 5-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams (average game score 46.6 points).
