The Josh McDaniels' era got started with a bang last season with the Broncos busting out to a 6-0 start under the first year 
head coach. The celebrating came to end after the team's week seven bye, though, as Denver dropped eight of its last 10 games to finish the season 8-8.
This preseason the Broncos looked more like the team that went 2-8 to close things out last year, rather than the one that started 6-0. Denver concluded exhibition play with a 1-3 record, and, worse yet, saw its opposition average 26.5 points per game. Poor defense plagued the team down the stretch last season as teams averaged 29.8 per contest in Denver's eight losses.
The Broncos were also bit by the injury bug this summer, losing defensive end Elvis Dumervil to a torn pectoral muscle (out for the season) while rookie wide receiver Demaryius Thomas and running back Knowshon Moreno missed almost all of training camp with foot and hamstring maladies, respectively.
The Jaguars, which went 2-2 in the preseason after winning its final two games 19-13 and 13-9, also enter the 2010 season with something to prove. Jack Del Rio's squad disappointed each of the last two seasons, going 5-11 in 2008 and 7-9 last year.
Jacksonville's defense left much to be desired in 2009, giving up an average of 23.8 points and 352.3 yards per game while posting a league worst 14 sacks. Del Rio is hoping the team's defensive minded draft and free agency signings (drafted defensive linemen with its first four picks and signed three defenders during the offseason, including Aaron Kampman and Kirk Morrison) make a difference starting this afternoon.
