Last week the Atlanta Falcons got the Mike Smith era started off on the right foot by pounding the Lions 34-21 at home. First round pick Matt Ryan also showed a few things, as he completed 9-of-13 passes for 16 yards and a touchdown. The Buccaneers narrowly lost to the Saints 24-20 last weekend in New Orleans. Quarterback Jeff Garcia did not have a great showing and he threw a costly interception with about 40 seconds to go that cost Tampa Bay a chance at the win. However, the Bucs biggest issue was their inability to stop Drew Brees and the New Orleans passing attack. Brees threw for 343 and three touchdowns.
Back-up quarterback Brian Griese will get the start this week in place of Jeff Garcia. Garcia contends that he is ready to play but Head Coach Jon Gruden is opting to use Griese instead.
Key Match-up: It will be crucial for Atlanta to get Michael Turner jump started again this week. If Turner can get going against the Bucs defense, he will take a ton of pressure off of Matt Ryan in what will be his most diffcult assignment as a quarterback to date.
