Dolphins Breakdown: Miami shocked the world last season with their 
transformation from a 1-15 squad to an AFC East winning 11-5 bunch. Granted, the post-season party was short lived as the Ravens ousted the Dolphins in the Wild Card round with a 27-9 victory at Land Shark Stadium, but the fact that Miami reached the playoffs was remarkable. Head Coach Tony Sparano would love a post-season redo, but history is not in his favor.
Miami caught a number of breaks last year with an easy schedule and a +17 turnover margin, but their greatest fortune was quarterback Chad Pennington remaining healthy. The former Jet has hardly been able to make it through a full season since arriving in the league and odds are in favor of him missing time at some point this year.
As much as Dolphins fans are anxious to see Pat White run the Wildcat, they do not want to see he or Chad Henne starting on Sundays.
Falcons Breakdown: While history says that Atlanta will probably take a step back this season as well, their roster would seem to say otherwise. Their offense, which ranked 10th in the league in points per game in 2008, should only be more potent with the addition of tight end Tony Gonzalez and the continued development of quarterback Matt Ryan. Their defense also has a number of new players and should improve with another off-season under defensive guru Mike Smith.
The Falcons first stringers certainly looked formidable in the preseason, but today's skirmish with the Dolphins will give a clearer indication of where this team might be headed.
