New York Jets vs Houston Texans NFL Picks, NFL Predictions & NFL Odds: The Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez era officially begins today as the Jets are set to square off against the Texans at Reliant Stadium in Houston. The game is set to get underway at 1:00pm ET and will be broadcast live on CBS. NFL Picks at BetUS.com have Houston listed as a -4 against the spread home favorite.
Jets Breakdown: The Jets hired former Ravens defensive coordinator
Rex Ryan this off-season to fill the spot of dismissed head coach Eric Mangini. Ryan's immediate goal will be to get the team back in the playoffs while his long-term project will involve unseating the Patriots as the dominant force in the AFC East.
Ryan believes he has just the man to help him meet both objectives in rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez. Sanchez made some novice mistakes during the team's 2-2 preseason, but he also displayed some real promise. The USC product completed 18-of-25 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns in the Jets final two exhibition contests.
Texans Breakdown: The only thing anyone cares about in Houston is reaching the playoffs. Many people believe Head Coach Gary Kubiak may have the squad to finally get it done this year. The team went 8-8 for the second straight season in 2008, but they closed out the year on a high by winning six of their last seven games.
The defense, which was the weak link on last year's team, showed signs of improvement during the preseason. Houston's fate, however, might rest on the health of quarterback Matt Schaub. When he plays, Schaub has proven to be one of the better passer in the league, but his fragility makes him an uncertain commodity.
