Coming off a huge upset in the season opener, the Washington Redskins will look to keep things rolling in the positive direction in Week 2. After handing Eli Manning and the New York Giants a telling, 28-14, defeat, last Sunday, the Skins will welcome another team coming off a week 1 win.
LP Field in the nation’s capital will be the site for the NFC battle between the NFL Point Spreads favorites (1-0-0) Washington Redskins [-4] and the visiting (1-0-0) Arizona Cardinals [+4]. Washington will be favorites by two safeties in this 2011 NFL Predictions Week 2 and the OVER/UNDER set at a combined total of 44 points scored.
The second season in the Mike Shanahan era got off to a very good start. With veteran quarterback Rex Grossman now running the offense, the Skins looked like a team determined to have an impact on the NFC East standings this season. Making his first Week 1 start since 2007, Grossman certainly justified Shanahan’s decision to start him in place of John Beck.
After a rough 0-4 start, Grossman completed 21 of 34 passes for 305 yards and 2 touchdowns and no interceptions. After unsuccessful stints in Chicago and Houston, the former AP National Player of the Year (2001), hopes to have found a home and finish his NFL career in Washington.
“I know it means so much to Rex,” Redskins tight end, Chris Cooley said. "He wants to be an outstanding quarterback. … He deserved to play so well today. I'm so happy for him.”
For the Cardinals, they too began the season with an important victory. With the eyes of the world focused on Cam Newton’s NFL debut, the Cards took everything the rookie had, which was plenty (24/37, 422 yards, 2 TDs), and still managed to come away with the “W”.
Kevin Kolb, who was making his debut in a Cardinals uniform, was instrumental in the victory, completing 18 of his 27 pass attempts for 309 yards and registering 2 TDs. Needles to say that the Cardinals felt more than fortunate to pull off a win like that. Even Arizona head coach, Ken Whisenhunt couldn’t deny the fact that this team would had lost this game last season.
“We were lucky to win a game like that,” Kolb said. “At the same time, we’re 1-0.”
