Carolina at Atlanta (-6.5) - Atlanta beat Miami 19-7 for their first win of 09. QB Matt Ryan struggled early, but finished with 229 yards passing and two touchdowns after completing 22 of 36 passes.  RB Michael Turner had 22 carries for 65 yards, while TE Tony Gonzalez had five catches for 73 yards. Nine of the Falcons' 19 points came off Dolphins turnovers. Carolina lost to Philadelphia 10-38. QB Jake Delhomme made seven of 17 passes for 73 yards. He threw his third interception of the game on the Panthers' opening possession of the second half. In his last two games, Delhomme has committed 12 turnovers. RB DeAngelo Williams had 14 carries for 37 yards with one TD, while catching four passes for 42 yards.

RB Steven Jackson had 16 carries for 67 yards, while WR Laurent Robinson had five catches for 87 yards. Rams CB Oshiomogho Atogwe now has 14 INTs since 2007, the most in the NFC in that time. Washington lost to NY Giants 17-23. QB Jason Campbell made 19 of 26 passes for 211 yards with one TD. RB Clinton Portis had 16 carries for 62 yards, while WR Antwaan Randle El made seven catches for 98 yards. The Redskins gained just 51 yards rushing on 20 carries. Albert Haynesworth had four tackles in his debut with the Redskins.

Houston at Tennessee (-7) – Houston lost 7-24 to NY Jets. QB Matt Schaub made 18 of 33 passes for 166 yards. RB Steve Slayton had nine carries for 17 yards, while TE Owen Daniels made four catches for 44 yards. They managed only 38 yards rushing, 145 yards passing and 11 first downs. Tennessee lost to Pittsburgh 10-13. QB Kerry Collins made 22 of 35 passes for 244 yards with one TD. WR Chad Johnson had 15 carries for 57 yards, while WR Kenny Brit made four catches for 85 yards. Rob Bironas made only one of his three field-goal attempts for the Titans.

New Orleans at Philadelphia (-1) – The Saints beat Detroit 45-27. QB Drew Brees tied a club record with six touchdown passes after making 26 of 34 passes for 358 yards. TE Jeremy Shockey had a breakout game for the Saints, catching a pair of touchdown passes in the second quarter. The Saints jumped out to an early 14-0 lead when Brees connected with Marques Colston and Robert Meachem. The Saints added two more touchdowns in the second quarter and were never threatened. The Saints defense held the Lions to only 33 rushing yards. RB Mike Bell rushed 28 times for 143 yards, starting for the injured Pierre Thomas. Eight different receivers caught passes for the Saints. Philadelphia beat Carolina 38-10. QB Donovan McNabb suffered a broken rib, while scoring on a 3-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. He made 10 of 18 passes for 79 yards with two TD’s. RB Brian Westbrook gained 72 total yards on 13 carries and scored a touchdown after sitting out the entire preseason. TE Brent Celek had six catches for 37 yards and a TD. Eagles defensive coordinator Sean McDermott, in his first regular-season game since replacing the late Jim Johnson, called a near-flawless game. Philadelphia completely stymied Carolina after giving up a touchdown to start the game. The unit finished with five sacks and five interceptions, while surrendering only 169 total yards.

New England (-5) at N.Y. Jets – The Jets beat Houston 24-7. QB Mark Sanchez finished 18 of 31 for 272 yards with a TD and an interception in his regular-season debut. RB Thomas Jones had 20 carries for 107 yards including a 38-yard touchdown run, his second of the game. TE Dustin Keller made four catches for 94 yards. Rex Ryan said the Jets were going to win games with a powerful running game and a smothering defense. They totaled more yards rushing (190) than the Texans had in total offense (183). New England beat Buffalo 25-24. QB Tom Brady made 39 of 53 passes for 378 yards and two touchdowns in his first game since Week 1 of last season. TE Ben Watson scored 12 points in the final 2:10 to take the lead. WR Randy Moss made 12 catches for 141 yards. New England LB Jerod Mayo left in the first half with a knee injury and did not return.

Oakland at Kansas City (-3.5) – Oakland lost to San Diego 20-24. QB Jamarcus Russell made 12 of 30 passes for 208 yards with one TD. RB Darren McFadden had 17 carries for 68 yards, while WR Louis Murphy had four catches for 87 yards with a TD. RB Michael Bush was the only one to rush for a TD. The Raiders outdid the Chargers in practically every category that mattered, including holding San Diego to just 77 rushing yards. Kansas City lost to Baltimore 24-38. QB Brody Croyle made 16 of 24 passes for 177 yards with two TD’s. Chiefs RB Larry Johnson rushed 11 times for only 20 yards, while WR Mark Bradley had four catches for 73 yards. WR Dwayne Bowe caught the lone TD pass. The Chiefs managed 11 first downs, 29 yards rushing and 159 yards passing.

Warner had more passing yards than Hill but threw two costly interceptions.  Cardinals RB Tim Hightower led all receivers with 12 receptions for 121 yards, while RB Beannie Wells had seven carries for 29 yards. The Cardinals had 12 penalties for 82 yards. Jacksonville lost to Indianapolis 12-14. QB Davis Gerrard made 14 of 28 passes for 122 yards. The Jaguars completed just two passes for more than 15 yards and finished with a 3.9 yard average on 28 passing plays. RB Maurice Jones-Drew had 21 carries for 97 yards with a TD, while WR Torry Holt had three catches for 47 yards. They managed 12 first downs, 114 rushing yards and 114 yards passing.

Cincinnati at Green Bay (-9.5) – Cincinnati lost to Denver 7-12. QB Carson Palmer showed a little bit of rust after missing time in the preseason, as he did not throw a touchdown and had two interceptions after completing 21 of 33 passes for 247 yards. RB Cedric Benson finished with 76 rushing yards on 21 attempts; WR Chad Ochcinco had five catches for 89 yards. Green Bay beat Chicago 21-15. QB Aaron Rogers made 17 of 28 passes for 184 yards with a TD. WR Greg Jennings caught six passes for 106 yards and the winning touchdown. When Rodgers struggled to get going for much of the game, Jennings proved to be his safety net. In their first game in the 3-4 defense, the Packers forced four turnovers and sacked Cutler twice.

Minnesota (-9.5) at Detroit – Detroit lost to New Orleans 27-45. Lions rookie QB Matthew Stafford made his NFL debut with three interceptions after completing 16 of 37 passes for 205 yards. RB Kevin Smith had 15 carries for 20 yards with one TD, while WR Calvin Johnson made three catches for 90 yards. They had 14 first downs, 33 yards rushing and 198 yards passing. Minnesota beat Cleveland 34-20. QB Brett Favre connected with rookie Percy Harvin for a 6-yard TD pass in the third quarter, his first scoring toss as a Viking. He made 14 of 21 passes for 110 yards. RB Adrian Peterson was unstoppable for large portions of the game. He finished with 180 yards rushing with three touchdowns and generally had his way with the overmatched Browns defense. The Vikings outgained the Browns 225-89 in rushing yards and held the ball for more than 33 minutes.

RB Cadillac Williams had 13 carries for 97 yards with a TD, while WR Michael Clayton had five catches for 93 yards. Buffalo lost to New England 24-25. QB Trent Edwards made 15 of 25 passes for 212 yards with two TD’s. In his first game with Buffalo, WR Terrell Owens was held to just two catches for 46 yards. RB Fred Jackson had 15 carries for 57 yards and five catches for 83 yards with a TD. Though the Bills had only one turnover, it proved to be very costly.

Seattle at San Francisco (-1) – Seattle beat St.Louis 28-0. QB Matt Hasselbeck finished the game with six receptions for 95 yards, including two touchdowns. RB Julius Jones had 19 carries for 117 yards with one TD; he went untouched through the middle of the Rams defensive line for a 62-yard touchdown run. The Seahawks lost two of three starting linebackers. Leroy Hill left the game in the first quarter with a groin injury and did not return, while Lofa Tatupu left in the third quarter with a hamstring injury. The Niners beat Arizona 20-16. QB Shaun Hill was unspectacular but solid, completing 18 of 31 passes for 209 yards and one touchdown to lead the 49ers. Most importantly, Hill didn't throw an interception. Vernon Davis led the 49ers with five receptions for 40 yards. RB Frank Gore helped lead the 49ers past the host Cardinals with a crucial TD reception.

Pittsburgh (-3) at Chicago – Pittsburgh beat Tennessee 13-10. After a sluggish start, QB Ben Roethlisberger found his form as the game progressed, he finished with 363 passing yards, the third-highest total of his six-year NFL career, and completed 16 of 18 throws in the fourth quarter and overtime. RB Willie Parker had 13 carries for 19 yards, while WR Santonio Holmes made nine catches for 131 yards with one TD. Steelers S Troy Polamalu left the game late in the first half with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee and didn't return. Pittsburgh was held to just 36 rushing yards and a 1.6 yard-per-carry average. Chicago lost to Green Bay 15-21. QB Jay Cutler threw four interceptions in his debut with the Bears after making 17 of 36 passes for 277 yards with a TD. RB Matt Forte had 25 carries for 55 yards, while WR Devin Hester had four catches for 90 yards with a TD. Linebackers Brian Urlacher (wrist) and Pisa Tinoisamoa (knee) were among the Bears unable to finish the game due to injury

WR Brandon Stokley grabbed a deflected pass and raced into the end zone for an improbable 87-yard touchdown reception in the final seconds. Broncos RBs Correll Buckhalter and Knowshon Moreno each had eight attempts, but Buckhalter out-gained the rookie, 46 yards to 19. WR Brandon Marshall had four receptions for 27 yards. Cleveland lost to Minnesota 20-34. QB Brady Quinn made 21 of 35 passes for 205 yards with a TD. RB Jamal Lewis had 11 carries for 57 yards while TE Robert Royal had four vcatches for 60 yards with a TD. Cleveland's Joshua Cribbs scored his seventh career special teams touchdown in the second quarter on a 67-yard punt return.

Baltimore at San Diego (-3.5) – San Diego beat Oakland 24-20. QB Phillip Rivers made 24 of 36 passes for 252 yards with a TD. He completed 6 of 7 passes on the deciding drive to get the win. RB Darren Sproles caught two passes for 24 yards and added another 5-yard carry on the final drive. He finished the game with 246 total yards, including 180 on kickoff and punt returns. RB LaDainian Tomlinson had 13 carries for 55 yards with a TD; he fumbled for the first time since Week 7 of 2006. The Chargers lost two starting offensive linemen to injuries in the third quarter. Guard Louis Vasquez was taken to the locker room with an injured knee. He was followed by center Nick Hardwick, who was carted off the field in the third quarter with a left leg injury. Baltimore beat Kansas City 38-24. QB Joe Flacco aired the ball out with 43 passing attempts, which might have seemed strange coming from the run-oriented Ravens. Flacco finished with 301 passing yards and three touchdowns. The Ravens did a credible job limiting Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe to only four receptions for 40 yards and a touchdown. Ravens starting RB Ray Rice rushed for 108 yards. Ravens WR Mark Clayton had five receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown.

New York Giants at Dallas (-3) – The Giants beat Washington 23-17. QB Eli Manning made 20 of 29 passes for 256 yards with one TD. RB Ahmad Bradshaw had 12 carries for 60 yards, while WR Steve Smith made six catches for 80 yards. Giants RB/KR Danny Ware was injured on the opening kickoff and did not return. New York rookie WR Hakeem Nicks suffered a sprained foot in the fourth quarter and did not come back. Dallas beat Tampa Bay 34-21. Cowboys QB Tony Romo began the season with an outstanding effort in Tampa Bay after completing 16 of 27 passes for 353 yards and three touchdowns and perhaps most importantly did not commit a single turnover. Romo averaged more than 22 yards per completion and all three of his touchdown passes were for more than 40 yards. Cowboys CB Gerald Sensabaugh left the game in the second half after being shaken up on a tackle
