NFL Week 2 Predictions: Week 1 of the 2009 NFL season is in the books and the results have posed some interesting questions for the Week 2 schedule. Just a few intriguing ones include: A). How will the Pats defense fare against the Jets on the road? B). Can Jake Delhmomme rebound on the road in Atlanta? and C). Will the Texans provide a challenge to the Titans in Tennessee? Visit online bookmaker Sportsbook.com for the latest NFL Week 2 Predictions.
Where have all the Patriots gone? The Patriots defense, minus the
likes of Richard Seymour, Tedy Bruschi, Mike Vrabel, and Ellis Hobbs, certainly had its struggles against the Bills last night, but in the end they did enough to get the job done. Buffalo's numbers were not overly impressive, but it seemed as though the Bills were able to get key plays in critical situations. That trend nullified the Pats statistical dominance and put New England in dire straights with just minutes left on the clock. Fortunately for Patriots fans, Leodis McKelvin had a costly fumble on a kickoff return that prohibited the Bills from having an opportunity to ice the game away.
New England's defense, which may be without linebacker Jerod Mayo, will have a stiffer task this week. Bill Belichick's crew will hit the road to face a Jets squad that produced 462 yards of offense against the Texans on Sunday.
Delhomme's Troubles: Jake Delhomme had a miserbale day on Sunday as he virtually handed the Eagles a 38-10 win at Bank of America Stadium. Delhomme has historically been better at home than on the road, making his last two outings in Charlotte more than worrisome. The Louisiana Lafayette product has completed 34-of-51 passes in the Panthers last two home games for 278 yards, a touchdown, and nine interceptions. Yes, nine interceptions.
Delhomme has a career quarterback rating of 82.5 on the road; last year that number came in at 71.4. But, surpisingly, the Georgia Dome may be just the place for the beleagured quarterback to get back on track. In his last three games in Atlanta, Delhomme has posted the following numbers: 59-of-90 (65.5 %), 798 yards, five touchdowns, and just one interception.
The Houston Teasers: Seemingly every year the Texans are everyone's sexy pick to reach the playoffs, and every year they seem to bury themselves in a 1-3 hole. Over the past four seasons, the Texans are a combined 3-13 through the first quarter of the season. They got their shovels out again on Sunday as the fell 24-7 at home to the Jets as four point favorites. Aberration? Unlikely, considering the offense that is suppose to carry this team produced a grand total of 183 yards.
Now Houston has to face the Titans in Nashville, a place that has been unkind to them in the past. The Texans are just 1-6 straight up in the Music City.
