NFL Spreads Week 2

by Alexander Banks on Thursday, September 15th, 2011

Following another underachieving season, Tony Romo and the (0-1-0) Dallas Cowboys did very little to encourage their fans that this year will be any different. After turning the ball over twice when it mattered most in the opener against the Jets, Romo has been blamed for the Boys’ inability to protect a two-touchdown going in the fourth quarter.

NFL Spreads Week 2Dallas’ fourth quarter collapse was historic. It was the first time in the franchise’s long history that a team had gone to lose a game after opening the final stanza with a two-touchdown lead. In the final minutes and with the game well in-hand, Romo simply choked… yet again.

“I can’t get back on the field fast enough,” Romo said this week while his team prepares for the Niners. “You need to come back from it and play really good football going forward for an extended period of time. That’s the only way to make up for it.”

So, how will Romo & Co. do in the NFL Spreads Week 2? According to NFL Point Spreads specialists, the (0-1-0) Dallas Cowboys [-3] are listed as the NFL Point Spreads favorites as they travel to the East Bay to take on the (1-0-0) San Francisco 49ers [+3]. This NFC battle is scheduled to kickoff at 4:05 PM ET (1:05 PM PT) from old Candlestick Park.

Romo threw for 342 yards and two touchdowns in game 1 of the season. However, he undid all that good work by throwing a costly pick and losing a fumble at the Jets’ three-yard line. Anyone that watched the game has to believe that if Romo had not made those mistakes down the stretch, we would be talking about the Cowboys being 1-0 rather than 0-1.

“Clearly, Tony has demonstrated the ability and the performance level for us to trust him. He is an awfully good football player,” Dallas head coach, Jason Garrett said in support of his QB this week. “He understands that you have some successes or you have some things that don’t go your way. You have to strap it up and go the next week. He has done a very good job of that throughout his career. He is somebody we trust a great deal.”
