2012 NFL Spreads Week 2

by Scott Burgess on Saturday, September 15th, 2012

The first game of the NFL Week 2 was the Green Bay Packers vs Chicago Bears, on Thursday Sept 13th. The Packers rattled and robbed Jay Cutler, and backup tight end Tom Crabtree scored on a fake field goal in the second quarter of a 23-10 victory over the NFC North rival Bears. The Packers intercepted four Cutler passes as he faced a fierce pass rush all night getting sacked seven times. My pick this week is for the Baltimore Ravens to upset the Philadelphia Eagles. Let’s look Baltimore vs Philadelphia and what’s ahead on Week 2’s menu. Here are the 2012 NFL Spreads for Week 2. Baltimore Ravens (+2.5) at Philadelphia Eagles (o/u-46)

The Eagles are trying to win a division which not only returns the defending Super Bowl champion Giants, but teams in Washington and Dallas which certainly were significantly more impressive than Andy Reid’s bunch. But, barely winning in Cleveland 17-16 doesn’t put the scare in opposing teams. Except for their defense, the Eagles generally looked like the team that started 4-8 and not the one that finished with four wins last year. Sure, Juan Castillo’s defense looked encouraging. But, the Eagles will only go as far as Michael Vick will take them. And, Vick was only a fingertip or two away from throwing his fifth interception. The scary truth for the Eagles is the Redskins and Cowboys looked vastly improved over last season.

The Ravens have a legitimate offense with real weapons, including an accurate quarterback. The Ravens put up 44 points in a season-opening win against the Cincinnati Bengals Monday night. It was only the Bengals. But Cincinnati was ranked No. 7 in total defense last season, 10th against the run and ninth against the pass. The Ravens had speed and playmakers on the outside with receivers Torrey Smith and Jacoby Jones. The Ravens had Ray Rice in the backfield or in the slot or split out as a receiver. Rice was gaining big yards inside as a runner, or turning a short pass into 18 yards as a receiver. With Rice running so well, the Ravens’ play-action game was superb.
