Houston Texans vs Tennessee Titans NFL Odds, NFL Predictions & NFL Picks: The Houston Texans will attempt to avoid their customary 0-2 hole this weekend as they square off against AFC South rival Tennessee in Nashville. Today's game is set to kickoff at 1:00pm ET at LP Field. NFL Odds at online bookmaker Bodog.com have the Titans listed as a -7 against the spread home favorite.
Texans Breakdown: Houston looked sloppy, at times, during the preseason and unfortunately for Head Coach Gary Kubiak, that trend continued last weekend with an ugly 24-7 home loss to the Jets. The Texans, which are suppose to be one of the better offensive units in the league, produced just 11 first downs and 183 yards against the Jets new defense.
The team's three star performers all had lackluster outings as Matt Schaub finished the day with a 55.9 passer rating, running back Steve Slaton had 17 yards rushing, and wideout Andre Johnson caught four passes for 35 yards.
The Jets won the time of possession battle 38:46 to 21:14 because Houston could not get the ground game going. This week the Texans will have to find a way to run the ball or the Titans will put a similar beating on them.
Tennessee ranked sixth in the league against the run last year, giving up an average of 94 yards per game on the ground. They held the Steelers to just 36 rush yards last Thursday. However, Slaton hit the 100 yard mark in both games against the Titans last year.
Titans Breakdown: Tennessee, like Houston, suffered a tough week one setback, but they were far more competitive in their 10-13 loss at Pittsburgh. The Titans performed admirably against the defending world champions, racking up 320 yards, but they were unable to keep Ben Roethlisberger in check. The ever elusive quarterback led the Steelers on a 10 play, 63 yard drive in overtime that resulted in a game winning 33 yard field goal.
Kerry Collins had a nice outing, completing 22-of-35 passes for 244 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Wide receivers Kenny Britt and Justin Gage also performed well, combining for 11 catches, 163 yards, and a score.
NFL Odds Betting Trend: The Titans are 6-1 straight up when playing as a home favorite against the Texans. However, Jeff Fisher's squad is 3-7 against the spread when playing as a home favorite with a spread between 4 and 7.5.
Houston Texans +7 (-120), Over 40.5 (-110)
Tennessee Titans -7 (+100), Under 40.5 (-110)
