Running back Adrian Peterson took care of the astonishment factor with a brilliant 25 carry, 180 yard, three touchdown performance. Peterson led the Vikes to 225 rushing yards, which in turn led to an almost seven minute advantage in the time of possession battle.
Minnesota's defense held Brady Quinn and the Cleveland offense to 268 yards, forced two turnovers, and held them to a 25-percent third down conversion rate.
Lions Breakdown: Last Sunday was not a good day for the Lions as the Saints lit them up 45-27 at the Superdome in New Orleans. Quarterback Matthew Stafford had some moments in the loss, but for the most part he looked like a rookie making his first start. He finished the day 16-of-37 for 205 yards and three interceptions (27.4 quarterback rating). The ground game did anything but help the Georgia product, accumulated just 33 yards (1.7 yards per carry).
The Lions revamped defense, under the direction of Gunther Cunningham, also had an inauspicious debut. Drew Brees and the Saints offense destroyed Detroit, racking up 515 yards and converting nine of their 13 third down chances. Brees threw for 358 yards and six touchdowns.
