Jets Breakdown: Rex Ryan could not have been more pleased with his head coaching debut as New York went into Reliant Stadium and smoked the Texans 24-7. Rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez had a scintillating introduction as well, completing 18-of-31 passes for 272 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
Sanchez' performance helped the Jets amass 462 yards and 22 first downs. Running backs Thomas Jones and Leon Washington took pressure off the signal caller as they combined for 167 yards and two touchdowns in 35 carries.
New York's overhauled defense held the Texans to 183 yards, forced two turnovers, and recorded two sacks. Running back Steve Slaton had nine carries for 17 yards (1.9 yards per carry) against the unit while Andre Johnson, arguably the best receiver in the league, caught just four passes for 35 yards.
