New Orleans Saints vs Philadelphia Eagles NFL Picks, NFL Odds & NFL Predictions: The Philadelphia Eagles will host the New Orleans Saints today in one of the weekend's higher profile match ups. Both squads, which are coming off decisive wins, will probably treat this meeting as a playoff of sorts given their respective post-season aspirations. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 1:00pm ET at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia (FOX). NFL Picks at Sportsbetting.com have the Saints listed as a -1.5 against the spread favorite.
Saints Breakdown: New Orleans, which had the top ranked offense in the league last year, would seem to be well on its way to reclaiming that title after pasting the Lions 45-27 on Sunday. The Saints produced 515 total yards as quarterback Drew Brees had his way against Detroit's hapless defense. The former Purdue Boilermaker completed 26-of-34 passes for 358 yards and six touchdowns. Brees hit five different receivers for a score, but connected with tight end Jeremy Shockey on two touchdown strikes.
The ground game also pulled its share, racking up 157 yards while averaging 4.5 yards per carry. Mike Bell did the bulk of the work as he toted the ball 28 times for 134 yards in his Saints debut.
New Orleans defense, despite the 27 points posted by the Lions, also had a solid showing. Detroit benefited from three Saints turnovers, but managed just 14 first downs and 231 yards. Rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford looked awful against the unit, completing 16-of-37 passes for 205 yards and three interceptions.
Eagles Breakdown: Philadelphia left Charlotte on Sunday with a 38-10 win on its record. While the Eagles did plenty to earn the victory, Carolina helped by coughing the ball up, in one form or another, seven times. Philly's offense finished the day with 17 first downs and a total of 267 yards. However, the rushing attack, with a healthy Brian Westbrook and a young LeSean McCoy, pounded out 185 yards at 5.8 yards per clip.
Quarterback Donovan McNaab had a pedestrian afternoon, completing 10 of his 18 pass attempts for 79 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. McNaab also had a rushing touchdown in the third quarter in which he suffered a cracked rib. He is listed as doubtful for today's game. If he is unable to go, three year veteran Kevin Kolb will start in his place.
The Eagles defense starred in the lopsided affair, holding the Panthers to just 169 yards of offense and limiting Carolina's vaunted rushing attack to just 2.9 yards per carry. Philadelphia also forced quarterback Jake Delhomme into four interceptions and had five sacks.
NFL Picks Betting Trend: The Eagles are 7-3 straight up in their last 10 September home games. The Saints are 3-7 in their last 10 road games.
New Orleans Saints -1.5 (-115), Over 46 (-110)
Philadelphia Eagles +1.5 (-105), Under 46 (-110)
