Pittsburgh Steelers vs Chicago Bears NFL Predictions, Odds & Picks

by Matt Foust on Sunday, September 20th, 2009

Pittsburgh Steelers vs Chicago Bears NFL Predictions, NFL Odds & NFL Picks: The Steelers and the Bears meet up today for what is certain to be a hard hitting slug fest at Soldier Field in Chicago. Pittsburgh comes in with plenty of rest after beating Tennessee over a week ago at Heinz Field. The Bears, however, are coming off a Sunday night loss in Green Bay. The two squads will kick things off at 4:15pm ET on CBS. NFL Predictions at Sportsbetting.com have Chicago listed as a +3 against the spread home dog.

Steelers Breakdown: Pittsburgh looked a lot like the team that won Pittsburgh Steelers vs Chicago Bears NFL Predictions, Odds & Picksthe Super Bowl last year when they beat the Titans 13-10 in overtime on Thursday, September 10th. They had two minute heroics before the half and the end of regualtion, they had no semblance of a ground game, and they played a suffocating brand of defense.

Offensively, Pittsburgh relied, as it usually does, on quartebrack Ben Roethlisberger. Big Ben completed 33-of-43 passes for 363 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. But, per usual, it was his ability to move around in the pocket and make plays with time running out that helped the Steelers get the win.

Pittsburgh's defense did not have its most dominating performance, but it limited the Titans to just one touchdown, which is almost certain to get a win at Heinz Field against any opponent. Tennessee had 320 total yards, but averaged just 3.4 yards per carry.

The Steelers will be without safety Troy Polamalu for the next several weeks. The All-Pro performer strained his left knee when Tennessee tight end Alge Crumpler landed on it in a scramble for a loose ball.

Bears Breakdown: Quarterback Jay Cutler looked as though he was making his NFL debut, rather than his Bears debut, on Sunday night in Green Bay. The big off-season pick-up completed just 17-of-36 passes for 277 yards, a touchdown, and four interceptions. Cutler's lack of ball security ruined a great defensive effort from Chicago and led to a 21-15 loss.

The Bears defense, which lost linebacker Brian Urlacher for the season with a wrist injury, stymied the Packers high-powered offense all night long. Aaron Rodgers and company managed just 226 yards, 12 first downs, and four third down conversions against the unit. The defense, particularly defensive end Adewale Ogunleye, harrassed Rodgers the entire game, recording four sacks and nine quarterback hits.

NFL Predictions Betting Trend: The Steelers are 4-6 against the spread and 5-5 straight up in their last 10 games as a road favorite with a spread between 0 and 3.5.
