NFL Picks Week 3: The New York Jets have gotten off to a terrific start this season, as they’re currently tied with New England and Buffalo for the top spot in the AFC East. Looking to move to 3-0, Rex Ryan and the Jets will travel to Northern California this week, in what should be an interesting matchup.
On Sunday afternoon at 4:05 PM ET, the (2-0) New York Jets [-3] will take on the hosting, NFL Point Spreads underdog (1-1) Oakland Raiders [+3]. O.co Coliseum in the Bay Area will be the site for this great matchup, which has an OVER/UNDER set at a combined total of 41 points.
The Jets defense is coming off a dominating performance in which it held its opponents out of the end zone for the duration of the game. With Mark Sanchez running the show offensively, the Jets put up 32 points on the board, as this one became a laugher early on. Sanchez finished the game 17-for-24 for 182 yards, 2 touchdowns and threw 2 picks.
"There was one streak we wanted to break and that's it, the first-quarter struggling offensively," Ryan said. "That's really a team deal and a team start. It was great to see them respond. When we tighten things up, not making communications mistakes, we're tough to beat."
For the Raiders, this team could easily be 2-0 right now, if it wasn’t for Buffalo’s furious second half comeback. Leading at halftime by a score of 21-3, the Raiders looked like a well-oiled machine, on both sides of the ball. However, both defenses disappeared after the break and the final 24 minutes became a shootout.
In the end, the Raiders defense could hold serve, as Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick drove down the field and scored the go-head TD on a fourth down play. Despite the loss, the Raiders can take away lots of positives from this heartbreaking, 35-38 loss.
"Not a whole lot to say other than that effort isn't going to be good enough," said Raiders All-Pro DT Richard Seymour. "We didn't seem to give the offense any help in the second half. That's on us. It isn't good enough."
