The Miami Dolphins play their home opener tonight, Monday Sept 21, against the Indianapolis Colts for some Monday Night Football action. The Colts won their last meeting 27-22, at home back in 2006. Monday Night Football Picks: Indianapolis Colts vs Miami DolphinsThe Colts (1-0) squeaked by Jacksonville 14-12, at home, in Week 1. QB Peyton Manning made 28 of 38 passes for 301 yards with one TD. Their top RB Joseph Addai had 17 carries for 42 yards with one TD, while Colts rookie RB Donald Brown totaled 49 yards from scrimmage in his regular-season debut. WR Reggie Wayne had 10 catches for 162 yards with a TD. Colts WR Anthony Gonzalez suffered a strained knee ligament in the first quarter and did not return. He is expected to miss 2-6 weeks. All-Pro safety Bob Sanders won’t play due to a knee injury. For the Colts to win they must get more production from their running game. If it doesn’t go well, look for Manning to turn to TE Dallas Clark and WR Reggie Wayne for some air time. There is a rookie cornerback on the Dolphins that Manning can exploit as well. The Colts have not lost a regular-season game since Week 8 of last season, a streak of 10 games, the longest current streak in the NFL. Colts TE Dallas Clark has 17 touchdowns, tied with Antonio Gates for first among all tight ends.

The Dolphins (0-1) lost to Atlanta 7-19, on the road, in Week 1 after four costly turnovers proved their undoing. Of those four turnovers the Falcons snagged 10 of their 19 points. QB Chad Pennington made 21 of 29 passes for 176 yards with one TD, he was also intercepted and fumbled. Their top RB Ronnie Brown had 10 carries for 43 yards, while RB Ricky Williams was the lone runner to pound in a TD. Their top receiver in Week 1 was WR Davone Bess with seven catches for 57 yards. It’s highly unlikely that the Dolphins will turn the ball over four times in this game. One advantage Pennington and the rest of Miami’s offense has in this game is that Colts’ All-Pro safety Bob Sanders won’t play due to a knee injury. Without him patrolling the secondary for Indy, Pennington can concentrate on finding open receivers across the middle like he does so well. The Dolphins used the Wildcat scheme last year and it worked so well that almost every other team has opted to use it. With a banged up Colts defense it should be interesting.

Recent Trends to Consider:

  • Over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
  • Road team is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 meetings.
  • Colts are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 meetings.
  • Underdog is 8-1 ATS in their last 9 meetings.
