The Bengals (1-1) beat Baltimore 15-10 at home thanks to Kicker Mike Nugent, who kicked a career-high five field goals, with two of them in the closing minutes. The Bengals won the division last season by running the table, going 6-0 for the first time in franchise history, and they’ve extended their streak of division wins to a team-record eight in a row. QB Carson Palmer completed 18 of 35 passes for 167 yards, while RB Cedric Benson had 23 carries for 78 yards as their offense struggled. It was defense that controlled matters, as the Bengals took advantage of four Joe Flacco interceptions and a couple second-half penalties. “It’s like Keith Rivers said early in the week — it’s a must win game. We had to go out and perform,” cornerback Johnathan Joseph said. “We wanted to go out and do what we did. The offense didn’t score a TD today but we moved the ball and the sticks. That’s what this game is about.” It marks the fifth time in team history that the Bengals have won a game without scoring a touchdown (the last time was 2007 at Baltimore). More important, though, is that it evens their record at 1-1 and keeps them a game back of Pittsburgh. The Bengals have to get out of the habit of having a dominant defense and a sporadic offense . After having his 14th 300-yard passing game last week, Palmer struggled to get in rhythm this week. WR’s Ochocinco and Owens combined for just seven catches for 101 yards after having 19 for 212 against the Patriots. The Bengals 8th ranked pass game will be up against the Panthers 19th ranked pass rush.

The Panthers (0-2) lost to Tampa Bay 7-20 at home. QB Matt Moore made 6 of 16 passes for 125 yards with a TD and an interception. They gave backup QB Jimmy Clausen a shot and he made 7 of 13 passes for 59 yards with an interception. RB DeAngelo Williams had 17 carries for a low 59 yards, while WR Steve Smith made three catches for 66 yards with a TD. Head coach John Fox said that no single player is to blame for the Panthers' early-season struggles on offense, but Fox is giving one player – rookie QB Jimmy Clausen – a shot at turning the tide. Clausen directed Carolina on an 18-play, 78-yard drive upon entering the game against Tampa Bay. Though the drive stalled at the goal line, Clausen showed enough to earn the chance to be the fifth rookie to start under center for the Panthers. Over the Panthers' 0-2 start, they rank 27th out of 32 NFL teams in yards per game (257.5) and 28th in scoring (12.5 points per game). Moore is next-to-last in passer rating at 41.8, having completed 20-of-49 passes for 307 yards, with two touchdowns and four interceptions. He also lost a fumble in each of the first two games. "It's never just one guy's responsibility for how well we do on offense; all 11 guys need to step up and make sure we're moving the ball and scoring touchdowns." They’ll be up against the Bengals 15th ranked pass defense and 18th ranked rush defense.
