Cleveland Browns vs Baltimore Ravens NFL Week 3 Picks

by Scott Burgess on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

The Baltimore Ravens are looking like a force to reckon with as they jump out to a 2-0 start, while the Cleveland Browns look like the same team as last season. The Ravens host the Browns, Sunday Sept 27, at M&T Bank Stadium. The Ravens went 2-0 against the Browns last season. NFL oddsmakers at Sportsbetting.com have the Ravens as whopping -13 point home favs over the Browns with the over/under set at 38.5 points. The Browns (0-2) lost in Denver 6-27 in Week 2. QB Brady Quinn is struggling in his first year as a starter. He made 18 of 31 passes for 161 yards. WR Braylon Edwards had six catches for 92 yards with no TD’s, he has no touchdowns in his last 10 games. RB Jamal Lewis had 14 carries for a low 38 yards after having a decent game in Week 1. Once again they are already one of the worst teams on offense generating a 32nd ranked total yards a game with their pass and rush ranked high in the twenties. Their defense is just as bad, but surprisingly they are great against the pass with a seventh ranked pass defense.  With a bad pass and running game going up against the defense of the Ravens, it’s going to get ugly.

The Ravens (2-0) beat San Diego 31-26 on the road in Week 2. QB Joe Flacco is much improved after having a season under his belt. He made 17 of 26 passes for 190 yards with two TD’s. He has already thrown five TD passes this season. Last year as a rookie, he did not throw his fifth touchdown pass until Week 9, and finished with 14 touchdown passes. Expect big things to come from this guy. RB Willis McGahee had 15 carries for 79 yards with two TD’s, while WR Kelley Washington had four catches for 58 yards with a TD. On defense Ray Lewis was a disruptive force for the Ravens. He forced a fumble, caused Rivers to throw an interception and made the play that closed out the game. Their offense generates the third most yards a game, while their running game ranks fourth and they put up the second most points per-game. Their defense is solid against the rush, but struggles against the pass. If the Ravens want to beat out Pittsburgh in the AFC North, they MUST improve against the pass.
