NY Giants (1-1) got a 28-16 home win over the mistake-prone St. Louis Rams in Week 2. QB Eli Manning threw two touchdown passes, and linebacker Michael Boley scored on a 65-yard fumble for the win. Manning hit WR Hakeem Nicks with a 3-yard TD pass, and WR Domenik Hixon made a spectacular juggling grab on a 22-yard score. When asked Tuesday if the Giants will concoct two game plans to prepare for Vick and his potential replacement Mike Kafka, coach Tom Coughlin promptly responded, "I expect Michael Vick will play . . . I think that if Michael Vick can play, he will play." Now they need to worry about their own QB Eli Manning, who was booed by his home crowd. They need him to be a Miracle Mann because he doesn't have a tight end he trusts now that Kevin Boss is in Oakland, he doesn't have a third-down possession receiver he trusts because Steve Smith plays for the Eagles and Brandon Stokley has been a teammate for 10 minutes, and he doesn't yet have a running game that can impose its will. If Manning comes out the way he did in the opener against the Redskins and the first half against the Rams (he was 2-of-11 for 19 yards and an interception at one point Monday), the Giants will have no chance against Vick (if the Eagles decide his concussion is not an issue) or even backups Mike Kafka or Vince Young.
Philadelphia (1-1) lost 31-35, in Atlanta, in Week 2 and also lost QB Michael Vick to a concussion. Vick left the field after being spun by a Falcons rusher into an Eagles blocker. He staggered off the field, and backup QB Mike Kafka came in for his first NFL game. Vick threw for a pair of touchdowns, completed 19 of 28 for 242 yards, for the Eagles before leaving the game. Kafka did a good job in a tough situation, guiding the Eagles down the field on a potentially winning drive in the closing minutes. But on fourth down from Atlanta's 22, Jeremy Maclin dropped a pass over the middle that would have kept it going. Michael Vick first will have to pass his concussion tests before being officially cleared, the Eagles believe he should be able to play Sunday. With DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Osi Umenyiora's pal LeSean McCoy out of the backfield, there will be an immeasurable burden on the franchise quarterback of the Giants to keep up the pace, which he won’t.
