Week 3 NFL Predictions

by Alexander Banks on Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

Week 3 NFL Predictions: The Bay Area is going to be rocking this Sunday, as the much-improved AFC West leading (1-1-0) Oakland Raiders [+3] make their home debut against the NFC East leading and NFL Point Spreads favorite (2-0-0) New York Jets [-3].

Kickoff for this great Week 3 NFL showdown is scheduled for 4 PM ET from the O.co Coliseum in Oakland, California. NFL Point Spreads specialists have set the OVER/UNDER mark for this Jets-Raiders matchup at a projected total of 41 points on the board.

The Jets come into the Bay Area fresh of their 32-3 destruction of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The matchup against the Raiders will be a bit more even, however. The Jets’ defense will get its first look of the season at sensational fourth-year running back, Darren McFadden.

This matchup is most intriguing, as it will combine one of the best rushing offenses in the league versus one of the NFL’s premier defenses against the rush. Going into Week 3, the Raiders are currently ranked fourth best in the league running the football with 160½ rushing yards per game.

The Raiders two-headed monster consisting of McFadden and bruising back Michael Bush is sure to test Rex Ryan’s defense. After two games, the Jets’ are in the top-10 in stopping the rush. Ryan’s ground “D” has only allowed 88 yards per game. It’s safe to say that who ever wins the running battle, whether the Raiders offense or the Jets resistance who comes out on top, will win this all important game.

My Week 3 NFL Predictions for the Jets vs Raiders: I like the Raiders to pull off the victory, or lose by less than a field goal in what should be a close game full of hard hits. I look for RUN DMC to have a huge game, but not on the ground. Due to the Jets’ ultra-aggressive defense, I can see McFadden breaking a few plays for big yards. Jason Campbell must do a good job of reading the defense and the various blitz packages, and audible to short screens and/or check-downs to McFadden and Bush.
