The Minnesota Vikings are finally home after opening their season with two road games, as they get set to host the lossless San Francisco 49ers, Sunday Sept 27, at Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. The Vikings have won three of the past four regular-season meetings, but haven’t met since the 2007 season. NFL oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com have the Vikings as -7 point home favs over the Niners with the over/under set at 40.5 points. The Niners (2-0) beat Seattle 23-10 at home in Week 2. QB Shaun Hill made 19 of 26 passes for 144 yards. Their top RB Frank Gore was RB of the week after 16 carries for 207 yards with two TD’s. He was also top receiver with five catches for 39 yards. The Niners offense generated 16 first downs, seven by passing, eight by rushing and made 5 of 15 third down conversions. The Niners defense has been solid this year, already seventh in total yards allowed, third against the rush and fourth in points allowed. The Niners entire organization has taken on Coach Mike Singletary's fiery personality since he took over midway through last season. The Vikings have mostly relied on their running game and if they think they can rush against the Niners they’re in for a surprise. At some point, Minnesota will need Favre to make some deep throws which can result in mistakes, as we all know Bret Favre has done.
The Vikings (2-0) won in Detroit 27-13 in Week 2. For the second straight week, the Vikings found themselves down at halftime before waking up in the third quarter. QB Bret Favre made 23 of27 passes for 155 yards with two TD’s. Their top RB Adrian Peterson had 15 carries for 92 yards with a TD, while WR Bernard Berrian made six catches for 46 yards. WR Percy Harvin caught the lone TD pass for the Vikings. The Vikings offense generated 18 first downs, 13 by passing, four by rushing and made 3 of 11 third down conversions. The Vikings have long been a run-stuffing defense and that is no different this year as they have yet to allow a rushing touchdown this season. If Minnesota can stop Niners RB Frank Gore that could force QB Shaun Hill to win the game. Hill has been solid this year, but he has yet to face a pass rush as good as the Vikings, which ranks third in the NFL with seven sacks. The Vikings have one of the worst passing games right now, but they have the second best running game and put up the fourth most points per-game. Favre has won 11 of his 13 starts against the 49ers
