T
he Redskins (1-1) lost a 27-30 (OT) heartbreaker to Houston at home. The Skins seventh ranked passing attack had an outburst in Week 2 led by Donovan McNabb completing 28 of 38 passes for 426 yards with one TD. Their ground game was awful gaining just 18 yards but Clinton Portis found the end zone twice. They attained 21 first downs, but only converted 2-of-10 third down tries. The Skins 31st ranked passing defense had an horrendous game giving up nearly 500 yards through the air, but held strong on the ground limiting the Texans to just 58 yards. The defensive coordinator has heard plenty of frustration this week from his players, especially CB DeAngelo Hall. "We were totally mad," Redskins cornerback Carlos Rogers said. "It was a little bit of everybody. It's different people in different spots that kept giving up the yards. We can't have 500-and-some yards. It won't happen again." On a good note they sacked QB Schaub five times and picked him off once. Redskins RB Clinton Portis has four touchdowns in his past three games against the Rams and LB Brian Orakpo has 7.5 sacks in eight career road games.
The Rams (0-2) lost in Oakland 14-16 for their 27th loss in 28 games. Rookie QB Sam Bradford made 14 of 25 passes for 167 yards with two TD’s and an interception. RB Steven Jackson carried the ball 19 times for 75 yards and made four catches for 50 yards. WR Mark Clayton added two TD’s on two catches. The Rams are looking for their first win of the season, but don’t look for it to happen this week. Their 24th ranked offense goes up against the 8th ranked rushing defense of the Skins, which forces QB Sam Bradford with the task of having to beat them through the air. They converted 16 first downs and only 20 percent of their third down attempts. The defense recorded two sacks and two INT’s but gave up over 400 yards of total offense with 173 coming on the ground. DT Clifton Ryan has been struggling with what is believed to be migraine headaches for the better part of the past week. Safety Craig Dahl is battling through the remaining symptoms of a concussion suffered in last week’s game against the Raiders. Neither practiced on Wednesday as they await word from team doctors. RB Steven Jackson has 482 yards from scrimmage in his last three games vs. the Redskins and Oshiomogho Atogwe has the fourth-most interceptions in the NFL since 2006 (18).
