The Raiders (1-1) beat St.Louis 16-14 at home last week for their first win of the new season. They had started QB Jason Campbell, who made 8 of 15 passes for 87 yards, but was pulled for Bruce Gradkowski after Campbell failed to sustain drives and managed only a field goal. Bruce Gradkowski will be the starting quarterback Sunday when the Raiders visit the Arizona Cardinals . "We were able to go out and move the ball and score some points," Cable said. "He'll go in there and do the job. It's his now. Where we go from here, obviously, will be decided by how well he plays." Gradkowski started four games last season in relief of deposed starter JaMarcus Russell. He guided the Raiders to impressive victories over the Cincinnati Bengals and defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers. The Raiders are getting ground movement from RB Darren McFadden after he had 30 carries for 145 yards. McFadden has totaled 240 rushing yards in Oakland's first two games this season, the second-most in the league. WR Louis Murphy was their top receiver with six catches for 91 yards with a TD.
The Cardinals (1-1) were humiliated by Atlanta 7-41, on the road, as their quarterback problems continue. QB Derek Anderson completed 17 of 31 passes for 161 yards with two interceptions, while RB Timothy Hightower ran in their lone TD. The Cardinals were outgained 444-267 and failed to convert a third down situation the entire game. The problem for the Cardinals offense is protecting the passer. The Cardinals are still adjusting to new quarterback Derek Anderson. Anderson doesn't get rid of the football as quickly as Kurt Warner did, putting additional pressure on protection schemes. Arizona probably has not found the right combinations yet. It's also true that Arizona's offensive tackles are not particularly good in protection — especially in a tough environment on the road. Anderson must be able to trust his receiving targets against the blitz. This offense is a work in progress. The Cardinals defense has been ineffective against the run, yielding 221 yards on the ground in week two. The Cardinals will get a heavy dose of RB Darren McFadden this week. Getting a home game against a shaky Oakland team will help.
