Monday Night Football: Carolina Panthers vs Dallas Cowboys Betting Odds

by Scott Burgess on Monday, September 28th, 2009

The Dallas Cowboys and their new stadium will be in the spotlight again, as the Cowboys host the winless Carolina Panthers, Monday Sept 28, for some Monday Night Football. Dallas has won three straight over the Panthers. NFL oddsmakers at Sportsbetting.com have the Cowboys as -9 point home favs over the Panthers with the over/under set at 47.5 points. The Panthers (0-2) lost in Atlanta 20-28 in Week 2. QB Jake Delhomme played better against Atlanta, but still couldn’t get the win. Delhomme made 25 of 41 passes for 308 yards with a TD. Their top RB DeAngelo Williams had 16 carries for 79 yards with a TD, while WR Steve Smith had eight catches for 131 yards. The Panthers offense generated 24 first downs, 16 by passing, eight by rushing and made 7 of 12 third down conversions. The Panthers have a dynamic running back duo with DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, but are in the middle of the pack with an average of 115 yards per game on the ground. In order to take pressure off Delhomme, a steady diet of Williams and Stewart could be on the menu in Dallas. They must get their 15th ranked running game in gear.  On a bad note Stewart is listed as probable for Monday’s tilt due to a sore heel. Delhomme has won three of his past four starts on Monday Night Football. The Panthers are 8-0 when Williams rushes for 110 yards or more.

The Cowboys (1-1) lost to NY Giants 31-33 at home in Week 2. QB Tony Romo was at it against, throwing up three interceptions and a fumble; that led to 24 points for the Giants. Romo made 13 of 29 passes for 127 yards with one TD. Their top RB Marion Barber had 18 carries for 124 yards with a TD, while TE Jason Witten had five catches for 33 yards and a TD. The Cowboys finished the game without RB Marion Barber and LB DeMarcus Ware because of injuries, and Barber is listed as doubtful for Monday’s tilt. The Cowboys offense generated 23 first downs, seven by passing, 15 by rushing and made 6 of 11 third down conversions. The Cowboy’s hyped up receiving corps failed to make an impact despite facing a secondary riddled with injuries. Roy Williams, Patrick Crayton, Miles Austin and Sam Hurd finished with a reception a piece, and didn't provide Tony Romo with big-play possibilities. The Cowboys Romo have to be on the ball against the Panthers second best pass defense.
