The Ravens (2-1) beat Cleveland 24-17 at home. QB Joe Flacco made 22 of 31 passes for 262 yards with three TD’s and without an interception. This also opened up the field for RB Ray Rice, who ran for 80 yards on 15 carries. WR Anquan Boldin caught all three of Flacco’s touchdowns, as the two have built a good understanding in their short time as teammates. Boldin reach 600 career receptions quicker than anyone in NFL history. Ray Rice has a bruised knee, leaving his status for this weekend's AFC North showdown in limbo . Asked if he expected Rice to play against Pittsburgh, Coach Harbaugh said, "We'll see how he fares throughout the week. We'll see how it heals." Rice was one of two NFL RB’s (with Tennessee's Chris Johnson) to exceed 2,000 yards from scrimmage in 2009. If Rice can't play against Pittsburgh, Willis McGahee will start, fullback Le'Ron McClain will probably be given more carries and third-stringer Jalen Parmele could be pressed into action. McGahee is averaging just 2.3 yards per carry this season, but he's a veteran back and has Baltimore's lone rushing touchdown this season. After Rice left, McGahee ran six times for 25 yards, and McClain gained 4 yards on his only carry. They have the best defense, and pass rush, in the league, but are ranked 23rd against the rush. They allow the fourth least amount of points per-game (13.7)
The Steelers (3-0) won in Tampa 38-13 with QB Charlie Batch at the helm. Batch threw for 186 yards and two long TD’s to Mike Wallace , Rashard Mendenhall rushed for 143 yards and one score, as Pittsburgh's defense delivered another strong performance with Brett Keisel returning an interception 79 yards for a fourth-quarter TD. The Steelers did little offensively the first two weeks of the season, but against the Bucs they scored on four straight possessions to build a 28-6 halftime lead. Pittsburgh threw a league-low 43 passes in its first two games, beating Atlanta and Tennessee primarily by running the ball and playing ballhawking defense. The offense is ranked 26th in the league, but their ground game is third and they racked up 201 rushing yards against the Buccaneers. Rashard Mendenhall says he’s been fine with the heavy workload as the Steelers deal with all of their quarterback problems. Ben Roethlisberger, who is suspended for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, has to sit out one more game before he’s back in action. The Steelers obviously aren’t far behind in sixth place, but “Blitzburgh” is back as Pittsburgh has 10 sacks through the first three games. Four came against the Buccaneers, and the Steelers look far more secure at the back with Troy Polamalu healthy, and that allows the Steelers to be more free with their blitz packages. That means nothing but trouble for opposing quarterbacks.
