Week 4 NFL Picks: Frustration has already started to set in, as Philadelphia’s “Dream Team” hasn’t lived up to all the expectations and hype. After suffering their second loss of the season at the hands of the Division rival Giants, 29-16, last week, Eagles’ quarterback Michael Vick threw a temper-tantrum for everyone in the press to enjoy. Vick complained about getting the shorter end of the stick by league referees on a weekly basis. He insisted that the men in stripes were deliberately neglecting his safety as an NFL QB. Vick demanded more protection in the pocket by the refs, claiming every other signal-caller in the league would have gotten several roughing-the-passer calls go their way… Vick simply wanted his baby bottle!
“At some point something catastrophic is going to happen,” Vick said after the game. “Not to blame the refs or say that it was their fault, it’s just one of those unfortunate situations and I just think more precautions should be taken when I’m inside the pocket. If you look at all the replays, I’m on the ground every time and it’s unfortunate for myself and it’s unfortunate for my team and I’ll be lying if I said I wasn’t, if I were to sit here and say I wasn’t frustrated right now because of that.”
On Monday, after watching his rant on TV and finding out that his (right) hand was in fact bruised rather than broken, Vick changed his stance on NFL officials. This week, the Philadelphia Eagles will be hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon at 1 PM ET.
“The refs have to do their jobs and they have tons of things to look over,” said Vick, whose status for Sunday’s game remains uncertain. “I was kind of out of character and being too candid in that aspect. Ultimately, I have respect for the referees and their decision to make calls. You won’t hear me complaining about it no more.”
