Detroit (3-0) got a 26-23 road win over the Minnesota Vikings, in Week 3. QB Matthew Stafford threw two touchdown passes to rally the Lions from a 20-0 halftime deficit, and Jason Hanson kicked a 32-yard field goal in overtime for the win. WR Calvin Johnson had seven catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns for the Lions, who are 3-0 for the first time since 1980. Stafford completed 32 of 46 passes for 378 yards. The Cowboys must contend with Calvin Johnson this week, he’s a 6-5, 236-pound beast who not only has great speed, but can win jump balls down the field as well as any wideout in the game. Already this season he has amassed 225 yards, and is the league leader with six touchdowns. The Cowboys are well aware of what Johnson is doing this season, and know that to beat Detroit they'll have to figure out a way to slow him down. Against the Cowboys last year, Johnson was kept mostly under wraps, catching six passes for 46 yards, though he did have a touchdown. In the process of defending him, though, the Cowboys were somewhat exposed in other matchups, as Nate Burleson had 97 yards and a score, while Lions backup quarterback Shaun Hill had 289 yards on the day.
Dallas (2-1) got an 18-16 home win over the Washington Redskins, in Week 3. QB Tony Romo persevered through pain to lead enough deep drives to set up Dan Bailey for six field goals, including a 40-yarder with 1:57 left to give the Cowboys the win. Romo was 22 of 36 for 255 yards and his best stat was simply lasting all four quarters. Romo was hardly hit in the first half, then the Redskins got in several crushing blows starting just after halftime. That's also when the snaps became an issue. He couldn't hide his frustration with new center Phil Costa, and clearly wasn't happy with receiver Kevin Ogletree. The Cowboys' defense has been fairly impressive thus far, the three offenses they've gone against don't necessarily strike fear in the heart of opposing coordinators. The Jets, 49ers and Redskins can all be qualified as run-first teams, but Detroit is much more wide open. Stafford has dropped back to pass 123 times this year, but the team has called only 84 runs, and lead back Jahvid Best is averaging less than 3.0 yards per carry. So far, the Cowboys have been great against opposing ground attacks, and haven't allowed many big plays through the air
