Buffalo Bills vs Miami Dolphins NFL Week 4 Predictions

by Scott Burgess on Thursday, October 1st, 2009

The Miami Dolphins play host to the Buffalo Bills, Sunday Oct 4, as the Dolphins hope to avoid going 0-4. The Bills have won four of the past six meetings, but the Dolphins won both meetings last season. NFL oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com have the Bills as -1 point road favs over the Dolphins with the over/under set at 37 points. The Bills (1-2) lost to New Orleans 7-27 at home in Week 3 and now sit third in the AFC East. QB Trent Edward made 20 of 35 passes for 156 yards, overall he’s thrown for 598 yards with four TD’s and one interception. Their top RB Fred Jackson had 18 carries for 71 yards, while top WR Josh Reed made six catches for 60 yards. WR Terrell Owens did not make a catch for the first time in 185 consecutive games. The Bills were out run on the ground 89-222 yards. T.O. will no doubt be looking for more passes after not catching one last week. If you brought T.O. in to be a force, why not use him against the Dolphins 26th ranked pass defense? The Bills have a ninth ranked running game, but might not see much ground time against the Dolphins third ranked rush defense. Bills WR Lee Evans has 693 career receiving yards against the Dolphins, his most vs. any opponent. DE Aaron Schobel has nine career sacks against Miami and RB Ricky Williams has rushed for more yards against the Bills (784) than he has vs. any other team. The Bills are averaging 21.3 ppg and they average 24 ppg on the road.

The Dolphins (0-3) lost in San Diego 13-23 in Week 3 and now sit dead last in the AFC East. QB Chad Pennington is out for the remainder of the season, virtually killing the Dolphins season. At the helm will be QB Chad Henne who made 10 passes for 92 yards against the Chargers. He did not look especially comfortable moving the offense. He will have to demonstrate significant improvement if the Dolphins are to get their first win of the season. Rookie QB Pat White, out of West Virginia, could see some play time as well; their intention is to use him as a dynamic offensive threat in the Wildcat formation.  Their top RB Ronnie Brown had 18 carries for 75 yards and three catches for 40 yards, while RB Ricky Williams drove in for a TD. Their top WR Davone Bees made seven catches for 54 yards. The Chargers defense kept the Dolphins to 149 rushing yards. The Dolphins are averaging 14.3 ppg and they average 23 ppg at home.

Recent Trends to Consider:

  • Under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings.
  • Bills are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 meetings.
