San Diego Chargers vs Pittsburgh Steelers NFL Picks, NFL Odds & NFL Predictions: The San Diego Chargers will look to put a major dent in the Pittsburgh Steelers post-season chances when they square off against the defending Super Bowl Champs tonight at Heinz Field. The two teams are scheduled to get things underway at 8:20pm ET on NBC's Sunday Night Football. NFL Picks at Sportsbetting.com have the Steelers listed as a -6 against the spread home favorite.
Chargers Breakdown: The Chargers bounced back from a tough home loss to the Ravens by beating a desperate Dolphins team 23-13 at Qualcomm Stadium. San Diego's offense managed 355, seven third down conversions, and 19 first downs in the win. Phillip Rivers completed 18-of-33 for 303 yards but had neither a touchdown or an interception. Rivers hooked up with Vincent Jackson five times for 120 yards. The Chargers did little on the ground minus LaDainian Tomlinson, totaling a mere 69 yards (2.5 ypc). Darren Sproles led the team with 18 carries for 41 yards.
Norv Turner's defense held Miami to 289 yards in the win and they also managed to put Chad Pennington out for the season. Safety Eric Weddle picked Pennington's repalcement, Chad Henne, in the fourth quarter and took it 31 yards to paydirt.
Steelers Breakdown: Things have not gone according to script for Pittsburgh thus far as the Steelers find themselves sitting at 1-2 after three games. Mike Tomlin's troops were stunned last week, falling 23-20 to the Bengals in Cincinnati. Pittsburgh had the lead late but allowed Cincy to score 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to steal what seemed like a certain win.
Ben Roethlisberger completed 22-of-31 passes for 276 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in the loss. Bengals safety took Big Ben's third quarter miscue to the house to get his team back in the game. The Steelers ground game had a pedestrian 102 yards as Willie Parker carried the ball 25 times for 93 yards.
Pittsburgh's defense held Cincinnati to 273 yards, but they were unable to keep Carson Palmer under wraps when it counted most. Palmer helped his team convert three times in three fourth down attempts and he led Cincy on two extended fourth quarter drives at the expense of the Steelers vaunted defense.
Game Notes: Willie Parker is out of today's game, which means theat Rashard Mendenhall will get the start at halfback for Pittsburgh. Tomlinson will be back in the lineup for San Diego.
NFL Picks Betting Trend: Pittsburgh is 7-2-1 against the spread and 8-1-1 straight up in their last 10 games as a home favorite with a spread between 4 and 7.5 and total between 41.5 and 44.
San Diego Chargers +6 (-105), Over 43 (-110), +220 (Moneyline)
Pittsburgh Steelers -6 (-105), Under 43 (-110), -260 (Moneyline)
