NFL Week 5 Predictions: Week four almost out, week five nearly in. The jaw-dropping matchups are few, but there are enough to give even the modest pigskin fan a jolt of happiness. The intrigue starts with the league's lone undefeated squad, the Kansas City Chiefs, traveling to Indianapolis to face the Colts and it ends with a big time matchup between the Vikings and Jets in the Big Apple. NFL Week 5 Predictions at online sportsbook BetUS.com like the home team in each case as the Colts and Jets are listed at -8.5 and -4 against the spread odds respectively.
Kansas City Chiefs vs Indianapolis Colts (-8.5): Kansas City had the weekend off and based upon the results of the Steelers and
Bears games, it looks like it was a good thing. The other unbeatens went down hard with Pittsburgh losing in the final minute on a Baltimore touchdown pass and New York sacking, literally, Chicago in the Meadowlands. KC will have its perfection tested by a defending AFC Champion that is 2-2 after losing at Jacksonville.
Obviously the oddsmakers are not in the Chiefs corner given the 8.5 point spread, but there are a few things to consider before jumping on the Indy bandwagon in this contest. First, the Colts defense stinks and it stinks where the Chiefs excel, against the run. Indy is allowing 149.5 yards per game on the ground while Kansas City is averaging 160.7 rushing yards per game. Second, Indy cannnot run the ball, giving the Chiefs defense more opportunity to focus on Peyton Manning and the passing game. Third, a tasty trend to whet the betting appetite…the Colts are 2-9 against the spread in their last 11 games off a straight up loss as a favorite.
Denver Broncos vs Baltimore Ravens (-7): Denver's offense has shown a great deal of punch this season, despite not coming through in the clutch on a few occasions. Sunday may have produced a breakthrough moment for the Broncos as they won on the road against a good Tennessee squad while outscoring the Titans 10-0 in the fourth quarter. A loss and Denver might have folded its tent, but with that win, the Broncos are a dangerous team going forward and one the Ravens had better not take lightly. Of course, Josh McDaniels knows to give Baltimore its due, especially after it dropped the previously undefeated Steelers in Pittsburgh.
Byes: Miami, New England, Pittsburgh, Seattle
