NFL Week 5 Point Spreads & NFL Predictions: The first quarter of the NFL season usually seperates the 'haves' from the 'have nots', but there are always a few teams still riding the fence. The Atlanta Falcons are one such team, despite their 2-1 record, but they will get a chance pick a side for a second straight game when they meet another 'have' squad in San Francisco. NFL Week 5 Point Spreads & NFL Predictions also gives football fans a match up between two top shelf teams in New England and Denver. Atlanta Falcons vs San Francisco 49ers (-2.5, O/U 41.5): The 2-1 Falcons enter this big match up coming off a bye, but the team NFL Week 5 Point Spreads & NFL Predictionsfailed its first road test on September 27th, losing 10-26 at New England. What went wrong for Atlanta in that game? They ran for just 58 yards, but even worse, they only had 17 rush attempts in a game they trailed 10-13 at halftime. Mike Smith's squad is averaging just 92.3 rush yards per game this season; they ranked second in the league last year at 152.7 yards per game on the ground. They will need to regain their rushing edge to beat the 3-1 Forty-Niners this weekend. That will not be an easy task considering the fact that San Francisco is holding teams to an average of just 73.8 rush yards per game (3.1 yards per carry).

After San Francisco, Atlanta hosts Chicago and then hits the road to face Dallas and New Orleans. Everyone was excited about this team after last year's turnaround and their 2-0 start this season, but the next few weeks will give the Falcons a chance to prove that they are, indeed, for real.

Match Up Betting Trends: The Niners are an impressive 4-0 against the number this season (Under 3-1).

New England Patriots vs Denver Broncos (+3, O/U 41.5): Denver is the biggest surprise in the league thus far with their 4-0 record and two game lead in the AFC West. Many questioned the Broncos credentials after they scored a freakish win in Cincinnati, and abused the hapless Browns and Raiders. No one is questioning anymore after they stuffed the Cowboys at Invesco Field as a +3 home underdog. They, however, have their most difficult task to date coming up this Sunday as they host the 3-1 Patriots. Granted, New England has not won in the manner many expected with the return of Tom Brady, but the Pats are still getting it done. Also, the collective record of the Patriots opponents this season is a stellar 9-6 (take the Bills out and it improves to 8-3). Point being, it is tough to beat, yet alone embarrass, good teams week in and week out.

Match Up Betting Trends: The Patriots are 7-3 against the point spread playing as a road favorite with a spread between 0 and 3.5. Denver is 2-7 against the spread over the last five seasons playing at home coming off a home win.
