The Bears (3-1) got pounded by the NY Giants 3-17, on the road. QB Jay Cutler was sacked a record nine times in the first quarter and sat out the second half with what is being called a concussion. He finished with 42 yards passing after making eight of 11 passes with an interception. Backup QB Todd Collins actually wound up leaving with a stinger late in the game, forcing Chicago to go with Caleb Hanie. Smith hopes to have all three quarterbacks available for practice on Wednesday. Coach Lovie Smith didn't want to speculate about Cutler's availability for the Bears' game Sunday . "If anything, we go beyond the call of duty when dealing with our football players," Smith said. "We make sure they don't go back on the football field unless we all feel good about it. RB Matt Forte had 12 carries for 26 yards and their top WR Greg Olsen made five catches for 39 yards. The Bears will have to figure out more ways to keep their quarterback upright and get their running backs moving downhill. They are ranked 31st on the ground and have to be more willing participants in handoffs. The passing game is 17th overall, with Cutler, but with backup QB’s Todd Collins or Caleb Haine at the helm they’ll be in trouble. Their defense struggles against the pass, but are the sixth best against the rush and they allow the eighth least amount of points per-game (17).

Carolina’s normally prolific running game has been well off pace. RB’s DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, who each rushed for more than 1,100 yards last season, have been held to a combined 355 yards with two TD’s through four games. Opponents have been loading up the line of scrimmage with eight defenders to stop the run, which is what defenses do until Clausen shows he can beat them downfield.
