The Pittsburgh Steelers vs Detroit Lions NFL Predictions, Picks & OddsSteelers won the game 38-28 in a contest that was not as close as the score. Mike Tomlin's troops controlled things throughout, but a 21 point fourth quarter by San Diego ate into the 28-7 lead the Steelers had built up.

Pittsburgh had its best offensive game thus far, racking up 497 yards and 32 first downs. The Steelers achieved a nice balance between the run and pass for the first time this year and the results were evident as they converted 8-of-12 third down situations and went 5-for-5 in the red zone. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had a great game, completing 26-of-33 passes for 333 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Rashard Mendenhall stepped in for the injured Willie Parker and had a career night, rushing for 165 yards and two touchdowns in 29 carries.

Pittsburgh's defense held the Chargers to 251 yards and 3-of-9 on third down. San Diego rushed for just 16 yards and held the ball for a meager 19:40.

Lions Breakdown: Detroit was dangerously close to getting its second win of the season last weekend, but mistakes led to a 24-48 loss in Chicago. The Lions had 122 more yards, 11 more first downs, five more third down conversions, and 13 more minutes of possession than did the Bears. However, they also had two turnovers to Chicago's zero and they gave up a 102 yard kickoff return touchdown at the start of the third quarter. The offensive line also continues to be leaky; Chicago had its way against the unit, posting five sacks and nine quarterback hits.

Matthew Stafford continues to show improvement, despite an interception and a lost fumble, as he completed 24-of-36 passes for 296 yards and one touchdown. He has found a reliable targets in wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who had eight catches for 133 yards, and fellow rookie, tight end Brandon Pettigrew, who snagged four passes for 64 yards.

Game Notes: Stafford injured his knee in the loss and it is uncertain if he will be able to play this afternoon. If he cannot, Duante Culpepper will get the starting nod. Culpepper completed 6-of-11 passes for 54 yards filling in for Stafford last week.

NFL Predictions Betting Trend: The Steelers are 1-4 against the spread in their last five game playing as a road favorite with a spread between 8 and 10.5.
