NFL Week 6 Odds 2011

by Alexander Banks on Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

NFL Week 6 Odds 2011: With Mario Williams and Andre Johnson injured, the (3-2) Houston Texans [+7½] will certainly feel like they’ve gone from the pot to the frying pan when they take the field in NFL Week 6. After a very disappointing, 20-25, home loss to the Oakland Raiders last Sunday, the Texans will need to regroup in a hurry, as they take on one of the best teams in the AFC in the NFL Odds favorite, Baltimore Ravens [-7½].

NFL Week 6 Odds 2011The Texans and Ravens are scheduled to kick things off this Sunday afternoon at 4:05 PM ET from M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland, and you can catch all the action live on CBS Sports. The OVER/UNDER is set at a combined total of 45 points scored. Get $50 in Free NFL Picks here!

With Johnson out indefinitely, the Texans have agreed to a deal to acquire former Ravens’ wide receiver, 37-year-old, Derrick Mason. In return, Houston would be giving the Jets an undisclosed NFL Draft pick, sources say. Although this deal has yet to be made public, various reports have confirmed the trade as being valid.

After being reunited with Rex Ryan in New York, Mason didn’t fit so well in the Jets’ scheme, forcing both sides to part ways. Before that, Mason spent six productive seasons in Baltimore, where Ryan was of course, the defensive coordinator. Before the start of the 2011 season, Mason chose to play for coach Ryan over his other two options: staying with the Ravens or going to Tennessee.

Some say that among some of the reason the Jets decided to get rid of the 2-time Pro Bowler were his diminished role, as well as his comments in the locker room. A couple of weeks ago, Mason ripped his teammates while talking to reporters following a loss. The veteran receiver insisted that the Jets had “cracks” that wouldn’t enable them to win games.

This week, Mason saw his role minimized, as the Jets utilized rookie Jeremy Kerley as their third receiving option. Although Ryan denied the team’s decision to swap the two wide outs, the trade speaks volumes.

“You guys know I have an open policy with the media,” Ryan said. “I don’t put a muzzle on anybody… Derrick’s going to still be a part of what we do, I just thought we can do some things with Kerley. I think we’re excited (with) the way he’s out there on the practice field and we’ll see going forward.”
