Tennessee Titans vs Jacksonville Jaguars 2010 NFL Picks, 2010 NFL Predictions & 2010 NFL Odds: Rivals Tennessee and Jacksonville will mix it up this evening in an AFC South clash at EverBank Field in Florida. The Monday Night Football showdown is scheduled to kickoff at 8:30pm ET on ESPN. 2010 NFL Picks, Predictions & Odds at online bookmaker BetUS.com have the Titans listed as a -3 against the spread road favorite; the Over/Under is set at 44.5.
It is no secret what these two rivals hope to accomplish this evening as both squads feature a ground oriented offensive
attack. The Titans, which are led by reigning rush champion Chris Johnson, rank fifth in the league in yards per game on the ground with an average of 138.2. The Jaguars are two spots ahead of them at 146.8 per contest.
Despite those strong numbers, Jacksonville's Maurice Jones-Drew and Tennessee's Johnson rank 13th and seventh, respectively, in rushing. Johnson is averaging 97 yards per game and 4.3 yards per carry while Jones-Drew is posting 81.2 yards per game at a 4.0 yards per carry clip.
The last time these two teams met was week eight of the 2009 season when both Johnson and Jones-Drew went off on the opposing defenses. Johnson posted a season high 228 yards on 24 carries (two touchdowns) in the 30-13 Titans victory while Jones-Drew averaged an astonishing 22.1 yards per carry after rushing for 177 yards and two touchdowns on eight touches.
Both backs will be eyeing a similar performance this evening; however, the Titans and Jaguars defenses appear to be playing much better this season, particularly against the run. Tennessee is presently the 10th best team at stopping the run, giving up an average of 101.8 yards per game, and the Jags are just two places behind them, allowing 102.8 yards per contest on the ground.
Those numbers would indicate a big evening could be in order for either Vince Young or David Garrard or, perhaps, both, as they look to capaitalize against a defense bent on stuffing the run. Obviously, Johnson and Jones-Drew are home run hitters, capable of big plays on the ground, but tonight's knock out blows may come off of play action passes.
Jef Fisher and Jack Del Rio could probably careless how the big plays happen, just as long as they are happening for and not against them. The Titans and Jaguars, at 3-2, are tied for third in the log-jammed AFC South and can ill afford a loss. Tonight's loser will have sole possession of last place while the winner moves into a tie with the Texans and Colts for the division lead.
NFL Picks Betting Trend: The Titans are 5-2 straight up and against the spread over the last five years playing as road favorite coming off a win (Under 6-1).
