Seattle (2-3, 1-2 V) was on their bye week in Week 6. In Week 5 they got a 36-25, road win, over the New York Giants. QB Charlie Whitehurst finished 11 of 19 for 149 yards in relief of Tavaris Jackson, who was 15 of 22 for 166 yards and a touchdown before going out with a chest injury after being tackled on a third-quarter run. RB Marshawn Lynch rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown, and Steven Hauschka had field goals of 51 and 43 yards. Seattle's starting CB Marcus Trufant and the longest-tenured Seahawks player, was placed on injured reserve Monday as the team returned from a bye week. Trufant will be replaced in the lineup by second-year CB Walter Thurmond. Aside from Trufant, the Seahawks are still unsure if starting quarterback Tarvaris Jackson will be available for Sunday's game at Cleveland after he suffered a strained pectoral muscle against the Giants. Jackson's done some limited throwing, Carroll said, but the Seahawks are moving ahead with the idea of getting backup Charlie Whitehurst ready to start against the Browns. They will insert Jackson into the game plan if he becomes healthy enough to play. If the Seahawks go with their backup, it would be the second start of Whitehurst's career. He led Seattle to 13 points in the final 1½ quarters of its 36-25 win over the Giants.
Cleveland (2-3, 1-2 H) lost to Oakland 17-24, on the road, in Week 6. QB Colt McCoy completed 21 of 45 passes for 215 yards with two touchdowns. RB Montario Hardesty had 11 carries for 35 yards, while WR Greg Little made six catches for 72 yards. It looks like RB Peyton Hillis has a bum hamstring that will keep him from playing the Seahawks and potentially sideline him longer than that. He became one of the top running backs in the league in 2010. He ran for 1,177 yards, 4.4 yards per carry, 11 touchdowns, 61 catches for 477 yards and another two scores to not only win the hearts of Browns fans, but the people who voted him as the Madden cover boy for this season. Too bad for him that the curse has struck again, he’s disappointing (3.5 yards per carry, no 100-yard games) this season. QB Colt McCoy is throwing for more yards per game this year, but so is every single player in the NFL. In fact, McCoy is throwing for less yards per completion and per attempt than he did as a rookie. He's completed less than have of his throws on three occasions this year, and if it wasn't for the fact that he went a ridiculous 40-of-61 (ridiculous that he actually threw 61 passes in a game) against the Titans, his completion percentage on the year would be much lower.
