NFL Week 7 Predictions

NFL Week 7 Predictions: The coming weekend of NFL action features several high profile match-ups, including tilts between the Falcons and Cowboys, Cardinals and Giants, Saints and Dolphins, and Vikings and Steelers. However, one of the most intriguing games involves two squads desperately trying to stay in the playoff chase as the Forty Niners and Texans battle it out at Reliant Stadium in Houston. San Francisco 49ers vs Houston Texans (-3): The Texans really showed something in their road win at Cincinnati; however, NFL Week 7 Predictionsgiven their history and the lack of faith in the Bengals, Gary Kubiak's squad will likely have to show something for several weeks in a row before anyone believes they are a playoff team. Although, the Texans, sitting at 3-3, are not having to dig out of the usual early season hole that they have so often found themselves in. That could bode well for them with a suspect Jaguars (who they lost to 24-31 at home earlier this season) team and what has turned out to be a horrendous Titans squad sharing the AFC South with them. Houston's medicore start is also a boon considering they have two games with the Colts left on their schedule as well as meetings with Miami and New England.

The Forty Niners had people believing after their 3-1 start, but there are some definite question marks after their pre-bye embarassment at the hands of the Falcons. San Francisco's defense gave up 477 yards and 28 first downs to Atlanta while managing 279 and 13 of their own, respectively. Mike Singletary's bunch now has company at the top of the NFC West with the Cardinals showing some life and there are a number of teams that they could find themselves battling for a potential playoff spot (i.e. Dallas, Chicago, Philadelphia, Green Bay, Atlanta).

So, each of these two hopeful clubs needs a win against the other in order to keep things rolling. Unfortunatley for Niners fans, there are a few of trends that would indicate they might be in trouble this week. First, over the last five years teams playing as a road dog with a spread between 0 and 3 and coming off a bye are just 2-10-1 against the spread and 2-11 straight up. Second, over the last five years teams playing as a road dog and coming off a bye are 19-26-1 against the spread and 11-35 straight up. Finally, San Francisco is 1-7 against the spread and 0-8 straight up over the last five years playing as a road dog during the month of October.
