For the Falcons, winning the NFC South last season let everyone know that Matt Ryan was for real in Atlanta. However, a slow start has put a damper on all the Super Bowl expectations for this team. Inconsistent would be the best word to describe the 2011 Falcons team that has alternated wins and loses to start the season.
The dirty birds started the season very poorly, getting blown our by the Bears 30-12 in Week 1, but bounced back with a 35-31 win over Philly. Another subpar, 13-16 performance against the Buccaneers set them back to under .500, before barely edging out the Seattle Seahawks, 30-28 in Week 4.
After getting off to an early lead on the defending champs, Atlanta laid an egg in the second half, falling, 25-14 to the Green Bay Packers. Last week, the Falcons evened out their record, with an impressive, 31-17 victory over a feisty Carolina Panthers squad. So, which Falcons team will show up this week?
If we were to follow the trend they have established, up until this point, ATL would lose this week to the Lions on the road. The Falcons are sure to get the best effort from a Detroit team that’s coming off its first loss this season. In what has become known as the game of the handshake, the Lions were taken down by the surging San Francisco 49ers, 19-25.
