NFL Week 7 Lines 2011: It’s funny how the eyes of the world have turned to the (4-2) Oakland Raiders’ [-4½] every move since the deal for quarterback Carson Palmer was announced. In a race against time, the Raiders are trying everything they can to have the former first overall pick start on Sunday when the NFL Point Spreads underdog (2-3) Kansas City Chiefs [+4½] come to town.
It appears that Palmer has made quite an impression on everyone since arriving in Oaktown. Both Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Al Saunders speak very highly of him and his potential to take this team to the postseason and beyond. In just two days of practice, Palmer has already gotten into the mix as a potential starter against the Chiefs. Nevertheless, don’t expect Jackson to make any official announcements about this week until Friday.
“It’s one day,” Jackson said. “I’m not in a rush. I don’t have to rush that decision. I’m going to take my time and see where they are and see how fast he picks up the system, see how fast he gets in line with his teammates and we’ll kind of go from there.” Get $50 in Free NFL Picks here!
The Raiders have a great opportunity in their hands, as they could easily be 6-2 by the time they meet the San Diego Chargers after their bye week. Oakland hasn’t been in divisional contention since the days of Rich Gannon. The addition of Palmer gives Raiders fans not only the opportunity to see a QB, with that type of craft, run one of the most efficient offenses in the league, but it also revives playoff talks in the East Bay.
“There’s definitely a learning curve involved for sure and I noticed that right off the bat,” Palmer said. “But it was exciting. It was fun to be playing football, it was fun to be in a huddle again, it was fun to be throwing routes in 7 on 7 and teams and all these things. But I definitely have my work cut out for me as far as getting the verbiage down, especially when it comes to playing the quarterback position.”
