Despite having the NFL Odds in their favor, the Lions have to be very careful with what has been an inconsistent Falcons club. Detroit must find a way to refocus, especially after losing Jahvid Best due to a concussion. Not helping things at all is the negative attention the now-infamous handshake between Schwartz and 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh has gotten this week.
"It's unfortunate," Schwartz said. "The game's played by the players on the field, and you certainly don't want things like that to occur, but there's competitive people in the league. That's said, we need to do a better job of just leaving it to the players on the field."
For the Falcons, winning back-to-back division titles will be a very tough proposition. Sitting at .500, the Dirty Birds are coming off an impressive 31-17 victory over Cam Newton and the Panthers. Running back Michael Turner was huge last week against Carolina, rushing for season-highs in yards, 139, and carries with 27. Atlanta is currently just 4-15 when traveling to Detroit to take on the Lions.
