QB Phillip Rivers made 20 of 33 passes for 274 yards with one TD pass; overall he’s thrown for 1,519 yards with seven TD passes and three interceptions. RB LaDainian Tomlinson had 18 carries for 70 yards, while top TE Antonio Gates made five catches for 70 yards. WR Vincent Jackson was the lone Charger to catch for a TD. Antonio Gates has scored more touchdowns against the Chiefs (nine) than any other team in the NFL. The Chargers O-line allowed QB Rivers to be sacked five times by a strong Denver defense. The Chargers are all about the pass; they’ll use their fifth ranked passing game against the Chiefs 25th ranked pass defense. They are worst in the league at running the ball, despite having two of the better RB’s in the league. Tomlinson has a combined (rushing/receiving) 170 yards with one TD and a fumble in three games, while Darren Sproles has a combined 291 yards with one TD and a fumble. From 2005-07, Shawne Merriman was one of the league's best pass rushers. He tallied 39.5 sacks over those three seasons and was one of the game's most feared defenders. A knee injury cost him virtually all 2008, however, and he has been held without a sack through five games this year. If there was ever a chance for Merriman to post a crooked number in the sack column it would be this week against a Chiefs team that has given up an AFC-high 22 sacks. Another loss for the Chargers will put them in a deep hole behind Denver in the AFC West. The Chargers average 24.8ppg and give up 27.2ppg, while they average 26ppg on the road and allow 29ppg. They are 1-4 ATS and 4-1 over/under.The Chiefs (1-5) won in Washington 14-6 in Week 6 and sit dead last in the AFC West. QB Matt Cassel made 17 of 32 passes for 186 yards; overall he’s thrown for 897 yards with seven TD passes and two interceptions. RB Larry Johnson had 23 carries for 83 yards, while WR Dwayne Bowe made six catches for 109 yards. QB Cassel was sacked five times and gave up two fumbles. QB Matt Cassel has thrown 132 consecutive passes without an interception. Over the last three weeks, the Chiefs have shown signs of improvement. They hung tough against the Giants in the second half, nearly beat the Cowboys before succumbing in overtime and finally got their first win last week in Washington. A victory over rival San Diego would give Chiefs players even more belief. It’ll be up to the Chiefs defense to get the win, they lack in offense, but proved the can hang in there with higher caliber teams. The Chiefs average 16.3ppg and give up 24ppg, while averaging 15.3ppg at home and allow 22ppg. They are 2.4 ATS and 3-2-1 over/under. Recent Trends to Consider:
