Bettors love Colts over Panthers in Week 8

by Thomas Jensen on Friday, October 26th, 2007

Sports Bettors love Colts over Panthers in Week 8Sports Bettors are putting absolutely no stock in the Carolina Panthers’ last two victories. With the Panthers listed as 6.5 point underdogs at Sportsbook.com for this weekend’s home game against the Indianapolis Colts, 99% of the action has been the Colts.

“I think players are overlooking the fact that the Colts are coming off a Monday night game and are heading into a Sunday 1 o'clock road game.,” stated Point-Spreads.com NFL Expert Handicapper Brad Marchetti of EinsteinPicks. “Bettors see Vinny Testaverde as a dinosaur, but he did post a 88.7 passer rating on the road against Arizona last start.”

No NFL game on the board this weekend has attracted as much attention as the contest featuring the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers as this game has more money on it than any other.

“It’s interesting that the public is overlooking the Panthers coming in off a bye week,” said Dave Staley, a spokesperson at Sportsbook.com. “Not only did the Panthers have an extra week to prepare but the Colts have had a short week, having played on Monday night in Jacksonville.”

With Vinny Testaverde playing quarterback for the Panthers in an emergency situation back in Week 6, the 43-year-old threw for 206 yards, 136 of them to Steve Smith, as Carolina beat Arizona 25-10 in their most impressive win of the season.

This week, second-string quarterback David Carr is likely to start. Carr, who has seen action in three games this season, is 1-1 as a starter with the Panthers.

The New York Giants are also attracting a lot of attention at the site this week. A whopping 96% of bettors have not been swayed by the 9.5 point line and are backing the favored G-men for this weekend’s encounter with Miami. “The injury to (running back) Ronnie Brown obviously has something to do with it,” said Staley. “The team is 0-7 and now they are without their best player.”

Also at 0-7, the St. Louis Rams are getting no love either. So far 90% of the action for the Rams game against the Cleveland Browns has been on the three-point favorite Browns. With the 3-3 record, Cleveland has been a pleasant surprise as the NFL Season approaches the midpoint of the schedule they may be catching St. Louis at the wrong time. The Rams’ Pro Bowl running back, Steven Jackson, is set to return to the field after missing the last four games with a groin injury.

“Like the Panthers game, the public doesn’t seem to put much value in home dogs even though they are 20-12 ATS this season,” said Staley. “Personally, I like St. Louis +145 on the moneyline.”
